Under the auspices of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, His Excellency the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah inaugurated Thursday the 13th edition of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ 2026) at its venue in the Katara Cultural Village with the participation of over 520 exhibitors from 41 countries.The opening ceremony was attended by a lineup of ministers and senior officials, ambassadors accredited to the state, and representatives of governmental and private entities as well as regional and international organisations concerned with agriculture and food security.Participating as Guest of Honor for this edition is Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen al-Fadley, affirming the depth of fraternal relations and joint cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, sustainability, and food security.Addressing the ceremony, HE al-Attiyah affirmed that AgriteQ 2026 embodies the wise leadership's commitment to advancing sustainable development and strengthening the food security system. He noted that the exhibition is being held at a significant stage as the State of Qatar continues implementing the third phase of the National Food Security Strategy (2024-2030), which is aimed at enhancing self-sufficiency, developing local production, and building a resilient food system capable of addressing global challenges.Al-Attiyah explained that the exhibition has become a leading platform bringing together decision-makers; investors; experts; and farmers, contributing to knowledge exchange; fostering innovation; and strengthening local and international partnerships, reflecting its growing regional and international stature.He also highlighted the qualitative achievements made by the State of Qatar in the field of food security, which have contributed to building a resilient food system capable of meeting local market needs and strengthening supply chain stability.His Excellency affirmed that the Ministry of Municipality, in co-operation with its partners, will continue implementing qualitative initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the agricultural sector, promoting its sustainability, developing its infrastructure and technological capabilities, and improving support mechanisms by linking them to production outputs. This includes engaging farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen in policy formulation, and reinforcing the role of the private sector as a key partner in agricultural development.He further noted that the Ministry of Municipality achieved first place in the "Ascending" category of the Qatar Government Excellence Award, underscoring the efficiency of its institutional performance and the quality of services provided.Al-Attiyah pointed to the launch of the Agricultural Support Vouchers Program during the current season, enhancing the flexibility and quality of production inputs. He also noted the achievement of 100% coverage for certain essential vegetables during several months, in addition to the commencement of exporting national products to external markets, reflecting the competitiveness of local products.He stated that self-sufficiency rates have reached 99% in dairy products, 100% in poultry, and 24% in sheep and goat meat, further strengthening the state's position in food security.Al-Attiyah also announced the launch of the "Sustainable Agricultural Production Award" starting this year, to honour distinguished farmers and livestock and fisheries breeders, and to promote a culture of innovation and sustainability. Winners of its first edition will be honoured during AgriteQ 2027.He emphasised that the State's ambition is to build a modern agricultural sector based on knowledge, technology, and sustainability, capable of contributing to the diversification of the national economy and achieving the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.AgriteQ 2026 is being held over five days across an area exceeding 40,000sq m, featuring diverse sectors including plant and animal production, fisheries and aquaculture, horticulture, food industries, transport and logistics, biotechnology, and smart agricultural systems.The exhibition also includes the AgriteQ Scientific Conference, which serves as a platform to discuss the latest developments in sustainable agriculture, food production chains, climate change adaptation, innovation in food industries, and trends in agricultural investment.In addition, the exhibition features a range of accompanying activities that enhance the visitor experience, including workshops at the Ministry of Municipality Pavilion, the Kids Zone, the Panda House, the Auction Theater, the Zoo, the Live Cooking Theater, workshops for People with Disabilities, "Qatar Lens", as well as the Farmers Market, Honey Market, Dates Mark The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) has announced a major concert featuring iconic symphonic works to be held at the Katara Opera House on February 7 at 7.30pm under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductor Pablo Mielgo.The programme opens with Johannes Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, a work celebrated for its elegance and structural refinement, highlighting the orchestra’s tonal richness and precision.The spotlight then shifts to QPO principal oboist German Díaz Blanco, who will appear as soloist in Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto in D major, TRV 292.Known for its lyrical charm and technical brilliance, the concerto unfolds seamlessly across three interconnected movements, exemplifying Strauss’s mastery of dialogue between soloist and orchestra.The evening culminates with Ludwig van Beethoven’s revolutionary Symphony No. 3, Eroica, a landmark composition that reshaped the symphonic form and expanded its emotional and thematic scope.Led by Concertmaster Joo Young Oh, the QPO will bring the work’s dramatic intensity and expressive depth to life, offering audiences a powerful interpretation of one of the most enduring pillars of the orchestral repertoire. 

Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Katara International Arabian Horse Festival will begin Wednesday at Katara Cultural Village. Against a backdrop of striking cityscapes and the beautiful Katara shoreline, the event will honour the grace, power, and timeless tradition of the Arabian horse. With a total prize fund of $1,050,000, the Doha stage stands amongst the most prestigious events of the season. The Katara Cultural Village Foundation announced the sponsors of the festival during a press conference held Monday, attended by Professor Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Foundation and Chairman of the Festival Organising Committee. In his address, Dr al-Sulaiti said the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani reflects the esteemed position of the Arabian horse in Qatari and Arab culture as a symbol of identity and authentic heritage. He noted that the sixth edition of the festival continues a sustained journey of development, adding that the event has evolved beyond a seasonal occasion to become a firmly established fixture on the Arabian horse calendar. He highlighted that six years of continuous progress have been reflected in growing attendance and rising confidence among breeders, owners, and enthusiasts from Qatar and abroad. This position, he stressed, is the result of a clear vision and cumulative effort built on discipline and consistency. Dr al-Sulaiti revealed that the 2026 edition features 545 horses registered across two championships – the Arabian Horse Tour and the Arabian Peninsula Purebred Championship. He explained that the diversity of bloodlines and artistic characteristics across both championships adds depth and balance to the festival, reinforcing the Arabian horse as a living cultural value rather than a relic of the past. Tournament Director and Organising Committee member Bader Mohammed al-Darwish said the achievements of the sixth edition reflect a clear strategic vision to strengthen the festival’s global standing and enhance the international presence of Arabian horses. He confirmed that the Arabian Horse Tour – Doha returns for the second consecutive year as the centrepiece of the festival, with more than 200 horses competing for qualification towards the World Arabian Horse Championship Supreme title. Al-Darwish noted that the Doha leg holds particular significance within the global tour, given its historical association with Arabian horses and traditional horsemanship. He added that the Doha round follows the season opener in Abu Dhabi and coincides with a renewed celebration of the breed in a country regarded as a major centre for Arabian horses. The festival will also host the Arabian Peninsula Purebred Championship, featuring 180 horses. The Katara International Arabian Horse Festival 2026 will run from Wednesday until February 12 and remains one of the flagship events organised by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, reflecting its mission to preserve Arab heritage and promote the Arabian horse as a timeless symbol of authenticity and belonging. 

Amid an incredible attendance of spectators marked by epic success, the curtain fell on the 8th Katara Boxing Championship in Doha on Saturday. The three-day competition, organized by the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation (QBWF), was held in both the amateur and professional categories. The amateur bouts took place over the first two days, featuring around 65 boxers across the three age groups (open, youth, and juniors), representing 15 clubs from Qatar and a team from Lebanon, competing across 10 weight divisions.**media[411819]**As for the professional category bouts, which took place in the evening on the final day of the championship, they showcased six intense matches on both the technical and tactical levels, with world champions competing for 5 Asian and World titles under the WBC, as well as the Diamond Belt. In the first match, Russian Kerim Khan Kerimkhanov claimed victory on points over Lebanese Abdulwahab Mashareqi after a balanced contest between the two sides. In the second match, another Russian, Ruslan Satiev, secured a quick win by defeating his Azerbaijani opponent, Bairam Shammadov, in the second round by knockout. The third bout, featuring Philippine boxer Jadalie Carolina Medeiros and her Iranian opponent, Shirin Shabani, was fierce and lasted eight rounds, before Medeiros claimed victory on points.**media[411820]**In the fourth match, Algerian Idriss Labidi won decisively over his Indonesian opponent, Rivo Rengkung, finishing the bout in the second round by knockout. In the fifth bout, Iranian Sajad Sattari defeated his Thai opponent, Kaonar, in the second round by knockout. Finally, in the sixth and concluding bout, Russian Ali Aliev triumphed on points over American Chip Moraza-Pollard after a strong contest from both fighters. Speaking to Qatar News Agency, HE President of QBWF Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al-Thani said that throughout the three-day saga, the event featured participation from all age categories -Prep, Junior, Youth, and Elite/Professional -with the first and second days dedicated to amateur competitions in the men’s, youth, and junior divisions, featuring 15 clubs from Qatar and a team from Lebanon, competing across 10 weight divisions for 26 gold medals. The final day was reserved for professional bouts in various combat sports, featuring world-ranked fighters competing for 4 Asian and World WBC titles, as well as the Diamond Belt, Sheikh Fahad highlighted. He added that the event is one of the key tournaments in QBWF's calendar, affirming that the federation is committed to holding it annually to discover new boxing talent for the different age-group national teams, while also giving clubs and centers across the nation the opportunity to participate, gain experience, and develop their competitive level. This was a record-breaking participation and stronger than previous editions, with the number of participants increasing to encompass multiple clubs and academies in the nation, as well as Lebanon's team, Sheikh Fahad noted. Sheikh Fahad emphasized that QBWF's plan is based on organizing a substantial number of events to promote the level of boxers and their talent. He stressed that QBWF's strategy underpins the development of all elements -boxers, trainers, clubs, academies, and special centers -with the objective of enlarging the base and attracting younger people and emerging talent to represent Qatar on all stages.

The "Arabic Calligraphy in Tunisia... Identity and Creativity" exhibition concluded Thursday at Katara Cultural Village, featuring 18 calligraphic works of Tunisian artist Tawfik Issawi.Katara organised the two-day exhibition in co-operation with the Tunisian embassy in Doha as part of its efforts to promote cultural exchange and celebrate the beauty of Arabic calligraphy.Katara deputy director-general Saif Saad al-Dosari attended the opening on Wednesday, along with Tunisian ambassador Farhad Khalifa and Issawi, along with other ambassadors accredited to Qatar, intellectuals, artists, and those interested in Arabic calligraphy.Visitors were treated to artworks that combined technical precision with the aesthetic and spiritual dimensions of Arabic script, reflecting the depth of the Tunisian artistic experience in this field.Issawi delivered a lecture on "Tunisian Calligraphy: Evolution and Formative Aesthetics", in which he presented an artistic and intellectual analysis of the origins of Arabic calligraphy in Tunisia and its development throughout different historical periods.He highlighted the most important Tunisian calligraphic styles, their artistic characteristics, and their role in preserving cultural identity and fostering contemporary creativity.Tunisian envoy Khalifa said that organising the event reflects the commitment to strengthening Tunisian culture in Qatar.He said that Arabic calligraphy is not merely a visual art form, but a language of the soul, a vessel of identity, and a bridge connecting the past with the present.Khalifa added that the Tunisian school of Arabic calligraphy represents a unique model that combines historical depth with openness, reflecting the richness of the Tunisian cultural experience.He also highlighted Tunisian, Arab, and international efforts to celebrate Arabic calligraphy and emphasise its depth, deep roots, and close connection to Arab and Islamic identity.The envoy lauded fruitful co-operation with Katara, considering this cultural collaboration a reflection of the deep fraternal relations between Tunisia and Qatar and an affirmation of the shared belief in the importance of culture and the arts in promoting dialogue and rapprochement between peoples.

The second Gulf-European Cultural Forum commenced Saturday at the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, where the two-day forum is being held under the title ‘Katara and the Bridge of Andalusian Heritage: Enhancing Cultural Communication between the Gulf Arab States and Spain’. The opening was attended by a number of cultural officials and academics, alongside a distinguished group of creatives and culture enthusiasts. The organisation of the forum underscores Katara’s pioneering role in consolidating cross-border cultural dialogue and reviving shared civilisational and human values, particularly the Andalusian heritage, which historically served as a bridge of knowledge and culture between the Arab world and Europe. The second edition of the forum brings together 25 researchers and creatives from the Gulf Arab states and Spain, with the aim of enhancing intellectual partnerships and fostering civilisational understanding among peoples. The forum opened with an official ceremony that included a brief documentary presentation highlighting the forum’s journey since its first edition, which was held in Granada, Spain. In this context, Director of Events and Cultural Affairs Department at Katara, Khaled Abdulrahim al-Sayed expressed his pleasure at the launch of the forum at Katara, which continually seeks to strengthen communication among peoples through culture and the arts. He noted that Katara serves as a platform that brings together heritage and contemporary creativity, acting as a living bridge connecting civilisations. The General Co-ordinator of the forum, Dr Mohammed bin Abdullah Boudi said that the launch of the second Gulf-European Cultural Forum follows the success of its first edition, which was held in Granada in co-operation with the University of Granada. He stressed that such forums represent bridges of culture and knowledge between peoples and civilisations, strengthening fraternal, human, and cultural relations between intellectuals in Europe and the Arab world, particularly the Gulf states. He added that the forum constitutes an important step reflecting the vital role of culture in promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding among different cultures. The first day of the forum witnessed the convening of the first intellectual seminar, which discussed the forum’s cultural and intellectual themes, with the participation of a number of academics and researchers, including Dr Safaa al-Alawi, Dr Jaime Ratia, Dr Susana Calbo, and Dr Mohammed Boudi. Their presentations addressed dimensions of cultural communication and manifestations of Andalusian heritage in shared human thought. The first day concluded with a poetry evening featuring several Arab and Spanish poets, including Trinio Cruz, Saeed al-Saqlawi, Shumaisa al-Nuaimani, Nabila Zubari, Maria Jose Munoz, and Francisco Javier, accompanied by musician Jose Agudo. The event offered a creative experience reflecting the richness of poetic convergence between the two cultures. The second day of the forum will be devoted to a book-signing event for a number of participants, including Dr Rashid al-Najm, Enginner Saeed al-Saqlawi, Salma Boudi, and Dr Jose Puerta. This will be followed by the second intellectual seminar, featuring Dr Jose Puerta, Dawood al-Bousafi, Dr Mashael al-Okaili, Ada Romero Sanchez, and Dr Anwar al-Saad, before the forum concludes with a poetry evening affirming shared human values and the importance of culture as a unifying language among nations.The closing poetry evening will feature Dr Rashid al-Najm, Emilio Ballesteros, Maria Jose Munoz, Francisco Javier, accompanied by musician Jose Agudo.
