As part of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS)’s Ramadan Campaign 1447 AH, themed “Keep Your Balance of Good Deeds Alive”, the daily On-the-Go Ramadan Iftar initiative at Katara Cultural Village has been warmly received by visitors. Now in its third consecutive year and sponsored by LuLu Hypermarket, the initiative is carried out by QRCS volunteers who distribute Iftar meals at the Ramadan Cannon area and to motorists at sunset. A total of 350 meals are distributed daily, totalling 10,150 throughout the campaign. Visitors have praised the initiative for reinforcing the spiritual values of Ramadan, particularly among children and youth. Beyond Qatar, QRCS continues to extend support to vulnerable communities worldwide through Ramadan food assistance projects. In Gaza, 17,833 food parcels are being distributed to displaced families at a total cost of $1.85mn, helping strengthen their resilience and enabling them to observe the holy month with dignity. In Afghanistan, QRCS has launched Ramadan food distributions for vulnerable families in the remote and mountainous provinces of Paktika and Zabul, in partnership with the Afghan Red Crescent Society and in coordination with local authorities and community leaders. Each parcel contains 94kg of essential food items, including flour, rice, sugar, beans, vegetable oil, dates, salt, and green tea. So far, 400 parcels have been distributed in Nematabad District (Paktika) and 364 in Mezana District (Zabul). Distributions will continue in Chahar Baran and Gomal districts, with 200 parcels allocated to each, bringing the total to 1,164 parcels at a cost of QR700,000. Two QRCS teams conducted field assessments in advance to identify priority needs. In Tanzania, QRCS concluded its Ramadan Iftar project in cooperation with the Tanzania Red Cross Society, distributing food parcels to 168 families—benefiting 1,176 individuals—across five districts in the Dar es Salaam region: Ilala, Kinondoni, Temeke, Ubungo, and Kigamboni. In Chad, QRCS partnered with Organisation Médicale Tchadienne and the Red Cross of Chad to distribute Ramadan parcels containing 45kg of rice, flour, sugar, and vegetable oil to 160 families, supporting 1,280 people. Preparations are also under way in Albania, where 500 Ramadan food parcels will be distributed by the Albanian Red Cross to 2,000 vulnerable individuals across several counties. In Somalia’s Northeast State, and in the presence of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, 1,951 one-month food parcels were distributed in Laascaanood, benefiting 10,806 people. Each parcel contained 66.5kg of essential items, including flour, rice, sugar, vegetable oil, infant formula, and dates. The assistance, valued at $184,931, also supported 210 patients with respiratory diseases and 690 persons with disabilities. QRCS has invited donors to contribute to its Ramadan campaign through its website, mobile app, donor service hotline, home collection service, or via bank transfer to designated accounts. 

The Katara Cultural Village kicked off a specialised art workshop on Arabic calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation Monday (February 23), presented by artist Aisha Rabie at the Katara Art Studios.This workshop is part of Katara's cultural programme aimed at supporting heritage arts and enhancing their presence in the contemporary creative scene, Katara announced on its X account.This workshop is part of Katara's efforts to revive authentic arts and provide interactive platforms that combine learning and practice. It offers participants the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Arabic calligraphy, its various styles and aesthetic principles, and to explore Islamic ornamentation techniques as a visual art form linked to cultural identity and reflecting the profound spiritual dimension of Islamic culture. During the workshop, artist Aisha Rabie will provide a theoretical explanation of Arabic calligraphy's origins and historical development, focusing on the most prominent schools and styles.The workshop also highlights the organic relationship between calligraphy and ornamentation, and how this convergence has formed one of the most prominent manifestations of Islamic art throughout the ages. 

The Katara International Ramadan Open Classical Chess Championship is set to begin today at Building 15, bringing together 86 male and female players from various age groups.The tournament is organised by the Qatar Chess Association (QCA) and will continue until March 1.The first round of the nine-round classical chess competition, played under the Swiss system (45 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move), will feature several players ranked on the International Chess Federation (FIDE) list.QCA president Mohammed al-Mudahka expressed his pleasure at the continuation of the championship, describing it as one of the most prominent events on the federation’s annual calendar.In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), he noted that the organising committee has completed all preparations for the start of the competition.He highlighted the tournament's importance in providing participants with valuable experience, particularly given the large number of rated players competing in the international event.Al-Mudahka thanked Katara Cultural Village for its efforts in ensuring the continuity of the tournament.He emphasised the federation’s commitment to such partnerships and its keenness to institutionalise these championships within the annual calendar to further develop the skills of national team players and strengthen their presence in upcoming competitions.The total prize fund amounts to QR25,000, with QR5,000 awarded to the first-place winner.Prizes will also be given to the top 10 finishers, as well as special awards for the best Qatari players across several age categories, in addition to prizes designated for players from the Qatar Chess Association Training Centre.The Katara Classical Chess Championship is considered one of the federation’s most prominent annual events.It is held each year during the Holy Month of Ramadan and has provided significant support to national teams across all age categories.

The 14th Qatar Halal Festival concluded Monday, having drawn strong participation from herd and livestock breeders from Qatar and other Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries. The festival, which began on February 11, was held at the southern area of Katara Cultural Village, attracting families, heritage enthusiasts and visitors eager to enjoy activities celebrating the region’s desert and Bedouin traditions, with particular emphasis on improving goat and sheep breeds. Throughout the event, breeders showcased distinguished breeds of sheep and goats in the popular “Mazayen” beauty contests, held daily across various categories. The competitions highlighted the advanced technical standards achieved by local and regional breeders, reflecting years of expertise in selective breeding and animal husbandry. The festival featured dedicated livestock display areas, an auction platform and exhibition spaces where visitors observed rare breeds up close and learned about traditional desert-based husbandry practices that have shaped Bedouin communities for generations. In addition to the livestock competitions, there were a vibrant traditional market offering handicrafts and heritage products, art workshops for children and live cultural performances, including rababa music. Over the years, the Qatar Halal Festival has grown into a key heritage initiative, combining cultural preservation with tangible economic value.
