Qatari visual artist Hessa Kalla represented Qatar at the second edition of the Jamssa International Fine Arts Forum, held in the coastal city of Jamssa in Egypt’s Dakahlia Governorate, from July 25-29.Held under the theme A Tribute to the Sea, Colour and Light, the forum is considered the first visual arts gathering of its kind in the Nile Delta and Mediterranean coast, seeking to establish Jamssa as a cultural platform bringing together artists and creative talents from across the region and beyond.The five-day event was hosted at the Police Officers Club in Jamssa under the patronage of Dakahlia governor Major-General Tarek Marzouk, and was headed by visual arts critic Dr Khaled al-Baghdadi, with artist Iman Abu al-Gheit, president of Awan Foundation for Culture and Arts, serving as general co-ordinator.The forum attracted broad Arab and international participation, including a notable presence from Qatar by artists Mohammed al-Atiq and Kalla, alongside artists representing Egypt, the Gulf, the wider Arab world and other countries.Kalla was honoured during the event by Dakahlia Governor Marzouk in the presence of Jamssa City head Dr Amr Abdelaty, Dr al-Baghdadi and Abu al-Gheit.Speaking to reporters, Kalla expressed pride in representing Qatar at an international gathering that brings together artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds. “I feel immense pride in representing Qatar at this international forum, which brings together artists from diverse cultures and creative experiences under the umbrella of art and creativity,” she said.She said that the participation offered an opportunity to showcase her artistic experience while discovering new visions and approaches that could enrich her creative practice.“Art is a universal language capable of crossing geographical and cultural borders,” Kalla said. “Such forums underscore the importance of visual dialogue among artists and allow us to exchange experiences and ideas in an atmosphere of creativity and collaboration.”She highlighted the role of art in reflecting Qatar’s cultural identity, noting that her work draws inspiration from the country’s environment, heritage and human traditions.Kalla began her artistic journey in 1980 with the Free Atelier, gradually developing from realism towards an expressive abstract style rooted in national identity.She is a member of the Souq Waqif Art Centre and the Qatari Fine Arts Society, and has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions.Commenting on the forum’s theme, Kalla described the sea as a powerful source of inspiration because of its historical and cultural symbolism, while colour and light remain fundamental elements in shaping the visual language of an artwork.Her recognition at the Jamssa forum adds to a career marked by artistic participation and honours in Qatar, the Arab world and internationally.

The ‘Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg’, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will convene a special leadership gathering alongside the 81st UN General Assembly (UNGA), in New York on September 20, 2026.The gathering, titled ‘QEF: UNGA Special Edition 2026’, will bring together global leaders, policymakers, investors and business executives at a pivotal moment for geopolitics and the global economy. Centred on the theme ‘Growth on New Terms: Capital, Risk and Resilience’, the event will examine how governments, businesses, and investors are navigating an increasingly fragmented global landscape.Convened during one of the most influential weeks on the international calendar, the event will provide a platform for high-level dialogue on the issues shaping global markets, investment flows and the international business landscape. Building on QEF’s established track record of convening leaders from government, business and finance, the gathering will feature news-making interviews, keynote conversations and discussions with some of the world's most influential decision-makers.The next full edition of the ‘Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg’, will take place in Doha in April 2027.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has invited Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani to serve as a keynote speaker at the fifth edition of the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum, to be held in Sao Paulo on August 25.The invitation was received by Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli from Mohamad Mourad, vice president for International Relations, and Rafael Solimeo, director and head of the International Office. Both Brazilian chamber officials also held a meeting with al-Obaidli to discuss trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Brazil.The meeting discussed the role of Qatar Chamber and the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in strengthening these relations. They also explored ways to enhance the role of the private sector in both countries in promoting bilateral trade and mutual investment.It also addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two sides and develop a roadmap aimed at boosting bilateral trade and increasing mutual investments across various sectors, particularly food security and food industries.Mourad noted that the forum, organised in cooperation with the Union of Arab Chambers and under the auspices of the League of Arab States, will carry the theme’ The Global Economy in Transformation: A New Agenda between Brazil and the Arab Countries’. He invited Qatar Chamber to participate in the forum, which aims to consolidate relations between Brazil and the Arab countries and strengthen partnerships between the private sectors in both regions.Al-Obaidli lauded the strong relations between Qatar and Brazil, stressing Qatar Chamber’s commitment to enhancing trade cooperation and encouraging the establishment of joint ventures and alliances between Qatari and Brazilian companies to increase trade exchange.

Businesses must prepare for agentic commerce, where AI-powered agents will shop on behalf of consumers, and for blockchain-based solutions that could reshape cross-border transactions.Visa Group president Oliver Jenkyn made the statement during ‘Media Day’ held recently ahead of the Visa Payments Forum in Paris, France, where he described the global payments industry as facing nine simultaneous technological revolutions.Jenkyn said the convergence of technologies such as generative AI, blockchain, quantum computing, and post-quantum cryptography is creating both confusion and opportunity. “If you aren’t a little bit confused, you aren’t paying attention,” he emphasised.He noted that uncertainty has always accompanied major industrial shifts, citing the advent of the internal combustion engine, personal computers, and the Internet. Quoting Voltaire, Einstein, and psychologists Dunning and Kruger, Jenkyn argued that humility and curiosity are essential qualities for navigating disruption.Jenkyn stressed that the difference between good and great teams lies in their willingness to adapt. “Great teams embrace the change; they lean into the change. They adopt a culture of curiosity, and they push themselves and their teams to learn and continue to advance,” he explained.He said the Visa Payments Forum provides a platform for dialogue and inspiration at a time when the industry is redefining itself. “It provides a venue for conversation and communication so that we can share and support, and most importantly, we can inspire each other for this next phase of what’s happening in our industry,” he emphasised.Jenkyn acknowledged that while technologies such as generative AI and blockchain are often discussed in abstract terms, they are already having tangible impacts on payments. “All of these topics are wonderful conversation topics, but unfortunately they’re having a very real and tangible impact on our business right now,” he said.He urged businesses to prepare for agentic commerce, where consumers will delegate shopping decisions to AI-powered agents, and for blockchain-based solutions that could reshape cross-border transactions.In Qatar, regulators have echoed similar concerns about balancing innovation with stability. In its 2025 Annual Report, the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) emphasised the need for robust cybersecurity and regulatory frameworks to support digital transformation in payments.The QCB’s Fintech Strategy 2025 also highlighted the importance of fostering fintech partnerships while ensuring compliance with international standards, a stance that aligns with Jenkyn’s call for curiosity and adaptability in the face of disruption.Jenkyn pointed out that the industry’s future will depend not on eliminating uncertainty, but on harnessing it as a driver of growth. “There will always be change. There will always be uncertainty; and we will always be able to adjust,” he noted. 

The State of Qatar won several awards at the International Forum of Arab Women in Diplomacy, organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States at its headquarters in Cairo Monday, in cooperation with the Arab Council for Social Responsibility, coinciding with the International Day of Arab Women Diplomats. Her Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater was awarded the Arab Woman Excellence Shield for Social Responsibility 2026 in recognition of her leadership at the national, regional, and international levels in supporting education and society, and as an inspiring model of Arab women's leadership. The award was received on her behalf by Counselor at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States Khalid Abdullah Al Ibrahim. In the same context, Director of the Department of Private Schools and Kindergartens at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Rania Yousri Mohammed was honored with the Arab Woman Social Responsibility Award 2026 for the Social Responsibility Project in Private Schools and Kindergartens. Dr. Mohammed told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Qatar's experience in this field was presented to Arab countries to exchange expertise and promote a culture of social responsibility and solidarity among schools, students, parents, and relevant ministries. She expressed hope that the project would help provide equitable, high-quality educational opportunities for all students in Qatar's private schools, enhancing education quality and supporting community development goals. Her Excellency Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti also received the Arab Woman Social Responsibility Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to parliamentary and community work and her efforts to promote the values of social responsibility. The award was received on her behalf by Khalid Abdullah Al Ibrahim. The forum also honored Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Egypt and Deputy Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States Maryam Ahmed Al Shibi, in recognition of her distinguished efforts in supporting diplomatic work, strengthening joint Arab cooperation, promoting social responsibility, and empowering women in diplomacy. In a statement to QNA, Al Shibi expressed her pride in the recognition, saying it reflects appreciation for Qatari women and Qatar's approach to empowering women and enhancing their participation in decision-making in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. She added that the award serves as motivation to continue serving communities and strengthening the role of Arab women in peacebuilding and sustainable development, dedicating the honor to Arab women in general and Qatari women in particular. The forum was attended by a distinguished group of regional and international diplomatic leaders, decision-makers, and representatives of development and media organizations.

The Gulf Creativity Forum kicked off at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena at Al Sadd Sports Club in Doha Sunday. The event, organised by Doha Girls Centre in collaboration with the Youth Organ of Al Sadd Sports Club, is held under the mantra of Gulf energies and creative prospects, in pursuit of promoting the spirit of joint Gulf belonging. Participating in this forum are young men and women from the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states, aiming to strengthen innovation and highlight the role of Gulf youth as powerful partners in societal development. Doha Girls Centre director Sheikha Hussein said that this forum represents a platform that assembles Gulf young energies in a shared creative space that demonstrates the spirit of collaboration among the peoples of GCC nations. The centre, she added, acknowledges that true investment starts from people, as young people are the core pillar of development who chart the future. The forum stands as a space for conversation to showcase young initiatives as an opportunity for sharing successful expertise, Hussein noted, emphasising that it would foster the shared Gulf identity, as well as values of cooperation, giving, and societal responsibility. She thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports for its unwavering support of youth initiatives and programmes. Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Head of Al Sadd Sports Club’s Youth Organ Maryam al-Yousef said this hosting is intended to support youth initiatives, foster youth projects, as well as consolidate communication and the sharing of expertise among innovators from GCC nations. The forum, she added, has been a rich platform to showcase inspiring youth experiences, including six initiatives and six projects from GCC nations, which together demonstrate promising young energies and creative perspectives capable of making a positive impact on Gulf societies. Al-Yousef further noted that the Youth Department at Al Sadd Club is set to launch its summer programme from July 4 until mid-August, within a vision aimed at delivering high-quality programmes that combine knowledge, skills, and meaningful recreation. She highlighted that the programme primarily targets the 15-39 age group, with several activities also dedicated to younger age categories. The forum featured a theatrical performance titled When Dreams Spoke, which addressed youth and community issues in a creative format, reflecting the forum’s message and objectives of enhancing awareness and strengthening community engagement. The forum also featured a dialogue session on “How Do We Create a Shared Gulf Impact”, featuring Qimam Initiative chief executive and founding member Maha al-Jassim and Al-Shayma al-Awadi, vice-president of the Bunyan Social Service Club. The forum also dedicated a “For a Sustainable Gulf” pavilion, featuring environmental initiatives and practical workshops on recycling, aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and embedding sustainability concepts among young people. 

His Excellency the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi has said maritime security can no longer be the responsibility of any single country, warning that growing geopolitical rivalry, cyberattacks and threats to critical infrastructure require greater international cooperation. Speaking at the Dubrovnik Forum in Croatia Friday, HE Dr al-Khulaifi said recent developments in the Middle East had demonstrated how disruption to a narrow maritime passage could have far-reaching consequences for the global economy, energy markets and international supply chains. He said freedom of navigation was not only a commercial interest but a cornerstone of international law, adding that open sea lanes were a strategic necessity for Qatar and the Gulf states, whose economies depend on a rules-based international trading system. It is not believed the world is moving towards a system based on exclusive or politically controlled corridors, he said, warning that such an approach would lead to greater fragmentation and instability.  HE Dr al-Khulaifi said sustainable maritime security rests on three pillars: adherence to international law, freedom of navigation without discrimination, and diplomacy and the peaceful settlement of disputes. While military capabilities could deter threats, he said, they could not replace trust between states. Drawing on Qatar’s mediation experience, he argued that deterrence alone rarely delivers lasting security, and that durable stability requires dialogue, political solutions and diplomacy. On the role of the United States, HE Dr al-Khulaifi said Washington remained an indispensable player in maritime security because of its naval capabilities and strategic presence. However, he added that recent regional events had shown military superiority does not necessarily translate into political stability. He also highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass each day, stressing that it must remain open, secure and governed by international law. Dr al-Khulaifi concluded by renewing Qatar’s call for respect for international law, protection of critical maritime infrastructure, freedom of navigation and the peaceful resolution of disputes, saying diplomacy and dialogue remain the best guarantee of lasting maritime security. 

The State of Qatar participated in the activities of the first Arab Forum for Administrative Justice and Integrity, which was held in Cairo under the title 'Developing Administrative Investigation Skills and Promoting Governance Principles.'As part of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the Arab League, Amna Abdulrahman Al Sulaiti attended the forum's activities.The forum, organized by the Arab Administrative Development Organization in cooperation with the Administrative Prosecution Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt, aims to highlight the role of administrative investigation as a pivotal tool in supporting transparency and accountability, in addition to reviewing the legal frameworks and practical applications related to governance. The forum will also discuss best practices and experiences in developing disciplinary systems and promoting institutional integrity within government agencies.The forum’s themes address the concept of good governance and its dimensions in public administration, administrative investigation as a tool to promote governance in light of the United Nations Convention against Corruption 2003, and technical problems in administrative investigation and their impact on the effectiveness of governance. Additionally, modern judicial principles and trends in disciplinary accountability and governance support will be addressed, as well as disciplinary sanctions and administrative grievances and their role in establishing the principle of accountability and governance in comparative disciplinary systems in Arab countries, in addition to holding simulation sessions and practical applications to link administrative investigation with governance principles.

Bloomberg Media’s top executive has emphasised the company’s commitment to protecting its journalism and subscriber relationships while advancing artificial intelligence (AI) tools, noting that the approach reflects its long-term investment in the Middle East and its partnership with Doha through the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF). Chief executive officer Karen Saltser said Bloomberg Media’s events business is designed to extend beyond the in-room experience, with market-moving moments amplified across television, streaming, digital, podcasts, newsletters and social platforms. She explained that this multi-platform approach provides resilience and flexibility as the media and events landscape continues to evolve.  Asked about content licensing deals with AI companies, Saltser stated that Bloomberg Media’s priority remains safeguarding its direct relationship with audiences. “Bloomberg Media’s value comes from trusted journalism, proprietary data, real-time information and the loyalty of highly engaged subscribers and clients. Any arrangement would have to reinforce that, not weaken it,” Saltser said.She noted that industry discussions are shifting toward models that reflect ongoing usage, attribution, and value exchange, but stressed that transparency, control over content, and preserving product integrity would be essential for Bloomberg Media. At the same time, Saltser highlighted Bloomberg Media’s own investments in AI, including AI-powered search, contextual advertising technology and tools that help audiences navigate large volumes of information more efficiently, always with human oversight. Saltser pointed to Bloomberg Media’s relaunch of its on site search powered by AI, which she said led to a double digit increase in clickthrough. “But the broader impact of AI is really about making Bloomberg Media’s journalism more useful and more accessible across platforms. We’re using AI to improve personalisation, surface relevant content faster, and help audiences navigate an enormous volume of information in a more efficient way,” she explained. “On the editorial side, tools like AI-assisted summaries and ‘takeaways’ help readers quickly understand the key points of complex stories, while always keeping journalists and editors firmly in the loop. We see those tools as complementary to our journalism, not a replacement for it,” Saltser continued. She further noted that AI is accelerating Bloomberg Media’s video and distribution strategy, enabling hundreds of hours of content each month across multiple platforms, while AI-supported contextual targeting helps advertisers align with relevant content in real time. Internally, Bloomberg Media is using AI-powered audience insight tools to better understand what different segments of its audience value and how they engage with content. Saltser emphasised that all of these efforts ultimately aim to help people access trusted information more efficiently. Earlier, Saltser said the collaboration between Bloomberg Media and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has grown considerably in recent years, driven by the Middle East’s expanding role in the global economy. She said, “QEF’s combination of both regional relevance and international reach has been especially important. Bloomberg Media brings a worldwide audience, editorial authority, and cross-platform amplification, while Qatar has continued positioning itself as a major hub for international business and diplomacy.” Together, Saltser noted, that dynamic has allowed QEF to become “a meaningful forum for conversations that extend far beyond the region itself across business, policy, technology and investment.” 

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah held a series of bilateral meetings Monday with ministers participating in the World Urban Forum, currently underway in Baku.He met separately with Somalia’s Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing Ayub Ismail Yusuf; Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov; the Secretary of State for Housing at the Ministry of National Planning, Urban Development, Housing and Urban Policy of Morocco, Adib bin Ibrahim; and the Minister of Local Governance of the Palestinian Authority, Dr Eng. Sami Hijjawi.The meetings dealt with prospects for co-operation, in addition to a host of topics of mutual interest, primarily in the areas of urban development, housing, and municipal services.  

Qatar participated in the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), which kicked off on Sunday in Baku and runs until May 22 under the theme Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities.The WUF is organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), with the participation of officials, decision-makers and experts concerned with urban development and housing from various countries of the world.His Excellency the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah led Qatar's delegation at the forum.He participated in the opening ceremony, which was attended by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, along with a number of senior officials and international decision-makers.HE al-Attiyah also participated in the ministerial meeting, which addressed issues of sustainable urban expansion, housing policies, and digital transformation in urban planning.In a speech delivered during the forum, the minister affirmed that Qatar, based on its National Vision 2030, adopts an integrated planning approach that links sustainable urban development, modern transport networks, and environmental sustainability, in a way that contributes to enhancing the quality of life and raising the efficiency of resource use.HE al-Attiyah said that building sustainable cities is now a strategic necessity to ensure quality of life and enhance the ability of societies to face future challenges, including climate change and rapid economic and technological transformations.He pointed to the pivotal role played by the public transport system in Qatar, especially the Doha Metro network, in supporting balanced urban development, reducing emissions, and enhancing connectivity between different urban areas.The minister also addressed Qatar's experience in developing pioneering urban projects, especially Lusail City and Msheireb Downtown Doha, as two models that reflect the state's commitment to developing advanced urban communities that combine sustainability, innovation and quality of life.HE al-Attiyah also pointed out that digital transformation has become one of the main pillars in the development of modern cities, through the use of geographic information systems, digital twins, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which enhances the efficiency of data-based urban planning and supports knowledge-based decision-making. 

Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Transport, took part in the International Transport Forum (ITF) 2026 Summit held in Leipzig, Germany, on May 6-8, under the theme Financing Resilient Transport.Held this year under the presidency of Azerbaijan, the forum discussed ways to enhance the resilience of transport systems and their ability to address economic, technological, and environmental challenges.It also reviewed best practices in financing transport infrastructure projects, supporting the transition towards more sustainable and innovative transport systems.The Ministry of Transport said this participation came within the framework of strengthening partnerships and constructive dialogue, keeping pace with the latest global policies and trends in the transport sector.It also aimed to enhance co-operation with countries and international organisations, as well as hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from various countries, thereby supporting national interests and facilitating the exchange of expertise.The summit brought together transport ministers from around the world, along with representatives of international organisations, the private sector, and experts.It is considered one of the most prominent global events in the transport sector and the largest annual gathering of transport ministers and decision-makers to discuss policies and future trends and promote international co-operation.
