Roberto Mancini says questions about his contract during his time as Manchester City manager were the club's "issue, not mine", after they were reportedly found guilty of all but one of 115 Premier League charges for breaching financial regulations.Mancini managed City between 2009-2013, and guided them to a first English top-flight title in 44 years, as well as an FA Cup victory.Among the club's alleged breaches are failures to provide accurate details for player and manager payments for nine seasons, beginning from the year Mancini took charge."It's not an issue that concerns me. It's nothing new because this matter has been discussed for the last four or five years," Mancini, now Italy coach, told reporters ahead of his side's UEFA Nations League match in Turkey."Manchester City has not been found guilty, and the alleged double contract is not my concern. It's their issue, not mine."On Friday, it was widely reported that an independent commission had decided City were guilty of 114 charges relating to breaches of financial rules.But no official announcement has been made by the Premier League and there is no firm indication of any potential sanction.City have strenuously denied the charges and their chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak on Saturday said he is still confident of proving the club's innocence.City are expected to appeal against their eventual punishment, which is yet to be announced and could include a points deduction, expulsion from the Premier League or a huge fine. 

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan sought on Monday to calm speculation over Mohamed Salah's relationship with the national team after his omission from Tuesday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan fuelled debate in local media.The issue has dominated discussions around the Egypt camp since the seven-times African champions were held to a 0-0 draw by Angola in their Group B opener, when Salah was substituted midway through the second half before leaving camp the next day.Speculation intensified after Hassan said the substitution was made for "technical reasons", despite Salah's strong form since joining Turkish side Trabzonspor from Liverpool.Local reports also linked the controversy to some of Hassan's previous comments about senior players, including goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy who he said "at one point was finished", prompting questions about the mood inside the squad. HASSAN STRIKES CONCILIATORY TONEHowever, Hassan struck a conciliatory tone ahead of the trip to Juba, underlining Salah's importance to Egypt's plans."I respect all the players, especially Mohamed Salah. He is an important and influential player, one of the team's key pillars, a great player and a vital member of the team, as well as one of the best players in the world," he told reporters.The coach said 34-year-old Salah's absence against South Sudan had been agreed between them before the Angola match because of concerns over the artificial playing surface."We decided to rest Salah because of the artificial pitch. He had discussed the matter with me before the Angola match, and we agreed on it," Hassan said."We need Salah in the upcoming matches. The well-being of every player is my top priority, and I have great confidence in all the players," he added.Egypt are seeking their first victory of the qualifying campaign as they bid to reach the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Alexander Zverev clinched Team Europe's Laver Cup victory over Team World as the two-time Grand Slam champion beat Learner Tien at London's 02 Arena on Sunday.World number two Zverev battled to a 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 win against Tien, ensuring Team Europe regained the Laver Cup with tournament co-founder Roger Federer watching in the stands.Team Europe wrapped up their 13-5 success against Team World on the final day of the exhibition event, which started on Friday.Zverev's Team Europe colleague Carlos Alcaraz this week said the German was the best player in the world after his French Open and US Open victories this year.The 29-year-old struggled to live up to that billing when he lost in the doubles on Friday and let slip multiple match points in a defeat against Alex De Minaur on Saturday.But world number three Alcaraz wrestled back the initiative on Saturday before Zverev teamed up with Casper Ruud to win in the doubles.That left Team Europe only two victories from the trophy in Sunday's session.Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik moved Team Europe a step closer by beating Team World duo Taylor Fritz and De Minaur in the doubles.Zverev saved a set-point in the first set against Tien before overwhelming the 20-year-old American in the second set to seal the silverware for Yannick Noah's squad.It was only the second victory for Team Europe in the last five editions of the Ryder Cup-style event, which started in 2017 and does not award ranking points."I haven't won a match here in two years, so I'm happy that I did it today," Zverev said."Massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way again. They were champions last year."This year, we had a great team chemistry and I'm very happy that we won."

Yusuf Abdurisag produced a winning goal even as talismanic Akram Afif missed from the spot as Qatar steered past Yemen 1-0 in their second group stage match of 27th Gulf Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on Sunday.It was Qatar’s second straight win and took their tally to six points and top spot in Group B. The UAE, who have three points, were playing Bahrain (1pt) in their second game.Qatar, who are 86 places above Yemen in the FIFA world rankings, somehow lacked their usual attacking flair against Yemen although Abdurisag’s 64th-minute goal was as heart-warming as much as it was spectacular.Sultan Al Brake sent in a cross from the left which went past Abdurisag to Edmilson Junior on the right. The Brazilian quickly sent it back to Abdurisag in the centre inside the 6-yard box, who controlled the ball well to beat the rival goalkeeper, a defender alike.Qatar showed right intent from the very start but Afif fired one wide from a good position while a Karim Boudiaf header flew over the bar.Hassan Al Haydos, who came off the bench to score in Qatar’s 2-0 win over Bahrain on Thursday, started and tested Yemen goalkeeper Mohammed Aman with a long-range shot, but the keeper dived to make the save.An injury forced Issa Laye off early in the match, with Jassim Gaber coming on as his replacement.Goalkeeper Aman denied Afif twice before the half-hour mark. First, he stopped a volley from the Al Sadd star before blocking his shot after Al Haydos sent a long ball into the box.Ayoub Alawi failed to connect with a header from a promising position as the stalemate continued at the interval.Edmilson replaced Hashim Ali after the half time break.Meanwhile, Aman continued his brilliant goalkeeping, stopping Abdurisag’s header shortly after the interval. Boualem Khoukhi, who scored against Bahrain, then headed just wide of the right post.Abdurisag finally put Qatar ahead four minutes later. The Maroons could have doubled their lead soon, but Aman well-judged Afif’s kick from the spot while diving to his left.Pedro Miguel, who was pushed by Hamzah Ghaleb, had won the penalty following a corner kick.Khoukhi blocked Adel Abbas Qasem’s attempt as Yemen tried to make a late comeback, but Qatar held on for victory. 

Ukraine's Elina Svitolina and Anhelina Kalinina swept aside twice defending champions Italy in the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals on Saturday, sending the country to the final for the first time and setting up a showdown with Czech Republic.World No. 48 Kalinina laid the foundation for victory with a 6-3 6-4 win over 18-year-old Italian Tyra Caterina Grant, ranked 102 places below her.Australian Open semi-finalist Svitolina then faced former French Open and Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini, but the 32-year-old needed little time to stamp her authority on the match, cruising to a 6-2 6-2 win to seal an unassailable 2-0 lead.The world No. 7 broke Paolini three times in the opening set and added two more breaks in the second to complete the win in one hour and three minutes.The victory also gave Ukraine revenge for last year's 2-1 semi-final defeat by Italy. It was achieved despite the absence of world No. 10 Marta Kostyuk, sidelined by a wrist injury.Ukraine now face the Czech Republic, who booked their first Billie Jean King Cup final outing since 2018. Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova secured straight-sets wins against Spain, keeping the Czechs on course for a 12th title.Italy lifted the trophy in each of the last two years, including a 2-0 victory over record 18-times champions the United States in last year's final, to take their tally in the premier women's team competition to six titles. 

Virat Kohli said next year's 50-overs World Cup would be his last for India and he is ready to give his all to help lift the trophy.Kohli, the leading century-maker in ODIs with 54 hundreds, retired from T20 internationals and Test cricket earlier and now represents India only in the 50-over format.The 37-year-old batter, who has scored 14,941 runs in one-day internationals, second only to Sachin Tendulkar's 18,426, won the World Cup on home soil in 2011 before suffering defeat in the 2023 final against Australia.The 2027 edition, to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October to November, will be Kohli's fifth ODI World Cup."For me, it's the last World Cup I'm going to play for India," Kohli told broadcaster JioStar on Saturday."That is my motivation and like, you know, to leave everything out there. And of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup and whatever it takes, I'm absolutely ready." DEMANDS OF 50-OVER WORLD CUP 'TOUGH'Kohli said the demands of a 50-over World Cup made it one of cricket's toughest challenges, particularly with the tournament set to be played away from home."The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything. Because now, it's about 10 games at a Twenty20 level of intensity," he said."But you are playing 2.5 T20 games in one day. And to maintain that intensity for 10 games in a big tournament and World Cup is a big deal. Also now, it's in foreign conditions. It takes a lot out of you."Former captain Rohit Sharma, who also plays only ODIs for India, said he remained fully motivated by the prospect of another World Cup campaign."The thought will never cross my mind that the business I had is finished," Rohit said."As long as you're playing, there is always something to look forward to. And I'm looking forward to the World Cup."Kohli and Rohit were both named in India's squad for the three-match ODI series against West Indies. The opening match will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

Jude Bellingham has been named England men's player of the year for a second successive season after a standout campaign in which he scored a record seven goals at the 2026 World Cup, the Football Association said on Friday.The 23-year-old Real Madrid midfielder's World Cup tally set a record for an England men's player at a major tournament as the Three Lions secured their best finish at the competition since 1966 by finishing third."It feels great," Bellingham said. "It's a huge honour to be recognised by the fans again. So not something you think about when you’re playing for your country, but it's obviously a beautiful little addition to the great summer we had, and the honour of playing for my country."The award was decided by supporters voting on the official England app.Bellingham's World Cup tally included doubles in the thrilling round-of-16 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium and in the quarter-final win over Norway in Miami.He also became the youngest European player to feature at four major tournaments.England manager Thomas Tuchel said Bellingham was "one of the players of the tournament, not only for us but of the whole tournament.""He lived up to his full potential; you could just see what a competitor and what a machine he is," Tuchel said. "He just thrives under pressure, he just loves these moments, he loves these stages and it brings out the very best in him."Captain Harry Kane was England's top scorer for a seventh consecutive season after netting 12 goals across all national team competitions, matching his best tally for England.Kane called the achievement a "showcase of consistency" and thanked his teammates and coaches for their support.
