Dukhan Bank becomes Qatar’s 1st Islamic bank to go live on Kinexys blockchain network

Dukhan Bank has gone live on Kinexys by JP Morgan’s Blockchain Deposit Account network, making it the first Islamic bank in Qatar to adopt this next-generation payments infrastructure.The implementation marks a significant step in Dukhan Bank's digital transformation journey, enabling faster, more efficient, and always-on payment services for corporate and institutional clients with increasingly global and time-sensitive treasury requirements.Kinexys’ Blockchain Deposit Account network, offered through JP Morgan’s industry-leading blockchain business unit, enables real-time cross-border payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays. The network supports major global currencies and enables near-instant settlement, programmable payments, and improved liquidity management.Ahmed I Hashem, acting Group CEO of Dukhan Bank, said: “Going live on Kinexys’ Blockchain Deposit Account network reflects Dukhan Bank’s commitment to delivering innovative, Sharia-compliant solutions that respond to the evolving needs of our clients.“By leveraging blockchain technology, we are enhancing the speed, transparency, and efficiency of cross-border payments, while supporting modern treasury requirements and strengthening our digital capabilities.”Akshika Gupta, Global head of Product Sales and Solutions, Kinexys by JP Morgan, said: “Kinexys’ Blockchain Deposit Account network enables banks to offer clients real-time, 24/7 cross-border payments and efficient, always-on settlement.“With an established presence in the Middle East, eight of the region’s largest banks leverage our Blockchain Deposit Account network, we’re pleased to support Dukhan Bank as it expands its payment capabilities. We remain focused on helping financial institutions across the region leverage the next phase of digital payments.”The development also reflects the growing role of advanced payment infrastructure in Islamic finance. The transparency, security, and real-time settlement capabilities of distributed ledger technology can support principles such as clarity, certainty, and efficiency in financial transactions, and this implementation reinforces Dukhan Bank's commitment to innovation within a Sharia-compliant framework.Dukhan Bank now joins a growing network of leading global financial institutions leveraging blockchain-powered infrastructure to modernise cross-border payments, optimise liquidity management, and support the future of digital finance.

QSE continues to retain fundamental support factors

The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index closed the current trading week down 1.18%, losing 120.59 points from the previous week's close to finish at 10,090 points, weighed down by declines in six sectors. The industrial sector posted the biggest losses during the week, falling 2.38%, followed by the real estate sector, which declined 1.2%. The insurance sector was the only sector to record a positive performance, edging up 0.08%. In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), financial market analyst Youssef Bouhlaiqa said the Qatari market continues to retain fundamental support factors that enhance its ability to overcome current volatility despite the continued cautious sentiment prevailing across regional financial markets. He said the half-year financial results announced so far, led by QNB Group and Dukhan Bank, have been positive, reflecting the strength of the banking sector, although those results have not yet enabled the benchmark index to move above the 10,300-point level. Bouhlaiqa attributed the recent decline in the benchmark index, which exceeded 120 points, primarily to external factors rather than the fundamentals of the domestic economy, adding that this could create opportunities for selective investment in blue-chip stocks as uncertainty eases. He stressed that despite current challenges, the Qatari market continues to benefit from several factors supporting its medium-term performance, most notably the strong financial positions of listed companies, continued robust dividend distributions, high liquidity levels in the banking sector, the resilience of the Qatari economy, and continued spending on development projects. Bouhlaiqa said the market's performance in the coming period is likely to remain tied to geopolitical developments, as well as the financial results of the remaining companies. However, he said the continued strong financial performance of leading companies could gradually restore investor confidence and support the index's return to an upward trajectory once external pressures subside.

Dukhan Bank expanded its asset base to a record QR129.2bn as of June 2026, reflecting a 4.4% increase from December 31, 2025.
