Kane says Ballon d'Or win 'feels like a dream' as tributes pour in

Harry Kane said Tuesday that his Ballon d'Or triumph "feels like a dream" as tributes poured in for the first English winner of the award in a generation.The England and Bayern Munich forward fended off competition from Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe to be named the world's best men's footballer at the London Palladium theatre late on Monday.Wembley was lit up to recognise Kane's achievement, with England's X account carrying the message: "The home of the world's best footballer."The former Tottenham forward is the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001.The 33-year-old struck a remarkable 73 goals in 65 games for club and country last season, propelling the German giants to a league and cup double.The England captain, who also picked up the men's striker of the year award, scored six times as his side finished third at the World Cup in North America."It sounds crazy to be honest but it sounds pretty good," Kane told Sky Sports on Tuesday. "What a special night. An incredible feeling. I'm still just trying to take it all in really. It feels really, really like a dream."The emotion (when his name was called) was relief, joy, happiness, excitement. There was so much waiting to find out the winner and in that moment it was quite nerve-wracking so to have that kind of release and to be able to share it with everyone there in that theatre was special."Prince William, patron of the Football Association, praised the England skipper."What a fantastic achievement and so deserved," he wrote on Instagram."A brilliant captain, a remarkable player and someone who has given football fans across the world so many unforgettable moments."England boss Thomas Tuchel, who was Bayern boss when Kane arrived in Germany in 2023, said the Three Lions were "lucky" to have him as their leader."I ran out of superlatives to describe your performances a long time ago, but I'm delighted to see that you have now been formally recognised by the football world," he said."To become the first Englishman to win this huge honour in 25 years makes it extra special and we are lucky to have you as our leader."England and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice described Kane as "incredible" while Chelsea's Morgan Rogers, another international teammate, said he was the "best ever".Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer said the award was "a proud day for FC Bayern"."Harry Kane can do it all -- and he scores goals, goals and more goals. He now joins a line with Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (as previous Ballon d'Or winners) -- that says everything about our history," he said."The club and Harry Kane have got together, grown together and achieved the highest aims together. We are proud that this all-round outstanding sportsman and person is part of our FC Bayern family."Harry Redknapp, former Tottenham manager, described his all-round game as "brilliant"."It isn't just his goalscoring that is good, it is his all-round play, and the way he is and the way he is around the players. He is great as the England captain," he told the BBC."No one could have deserved this more, it has been a brilliant story."

Bayern beat Freiburg to reclaim top spot after Kompany illness

Bayern Munich reclaimed top spot in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win at Freiburg on Sunday, days after coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalised when he collapsed at training.Bayern were missing several first-team players and Kompany, but cruised to a two-goal lead at half-time with Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry scoring.Freiburg pulled one back and were pushing for a point in stoppage time when goalkeeper Mio Backhaus was caught out up the field, allowing Michael Olise to slide the ball into an empty net. Kompany remains in hospital and is being treated for a mystery virus, with Bayern saying Saturday the coach is likely to be out for "days, not weeks".Bayern leapfrogged Borussia Dortmund to top the table ahead of the duo's clash in Munich next week. Harry Kane had a close-range effort saved late in the second half but failed to find the net a day before the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, with the England captain one of the favourites.Bayern arrived in the Black Forest after a tumultuous few days which left them lacking leaders. With coach Kompany still in hospital after collapsing on Friday, Englishman Aaron Danks was in the Bayern dugout.The visitors were also without injured captain Manuel Neuer, Luis Diaz, Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Kim Min-jae, while midfielder and Germany captain Joshua Kimmich was on bereavement leave due to the sudden death of his father.Bayern were in the unusual position of sitting back and absorbing pressure as Freiburg pushed, but took the lead after 16 minutes when Upamecano started and finished a length-of-the-field counter.The France defender won possession near his own box, played a one-two with Olise before thundering goalwards and sending a cool shot past Backhaus.Bayern doubled up just before the break when Gnabry latched onto a Nathaniel Brown pass and nutmegged Backhaus to score. With 10 minutes remaining, Kane stung Backhaus's palms from close range and the hosts went on an immediate counter, forcing Tom Bischof into conceding an own goal.The goal sparked Freiburg to life and Bayern 'keeper Jonas Urbig needed to make crucial saves from Igor Matanovic in the dying moments.With Freiburg and Backhaus pushing high, Olise won possession and scored to wrap up the victory.Hoffenheim scored three goals in the final 11 minutes, including the 1,000th league goal in their history, as they snapped Bayer Leverkusen's six-game winning streak with a 3-0 home victory.Hoffenheim, who beat Lyon by the same scoreline in the Europa League on Thursday, have now won three in a row. Leverkusen, who had claimed 13 of a possible 15 points before Sunday's match, could have gone into third place with victory but instead sit fourth.The best chance of the opening half fell to former Leverkusen forward Adam Hlozek when he rattled the post with 38 minutes gone. With the match looking headed for a scoreless draw, Leverkusen captain Edmond Tapsoba swept Fisnik Asllani's ankle while defending a cross, with the referee pointing to the spot after a VAR review.Andrej Kramaric's 79th-minute penalty was the 1000th goal in the club's history and put Hoffenheim on track for victory. With Leverkusen pushing for an equaliser, Hoffenheim broke on the counter and Alexander Prass scored, but he picked up a second yellow for removing his shirt in celebration, before leaving the pitch slapping himself on the forehead in dismay.Max Moerstedt added a third despite the one-man disadvantage in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Coach Vincent Kompany is currently undergoing a thorough examination, Bayern Munich said in a statement on Friday.

Bayern's Kompany, Kimmich, Neuer doubtful for Arsenal clash, says assistant coach

Bayern Munich could be without coach Vincent Kompany, first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and playmaker Joshua Kimmich when they host Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, assistant coach Aaron Danks said on Tuesday.Kompany is nursing a virus that has affected his legs at times, while Neuer has only just recovered from a minor injury and Kimmich missed training due to personal reasons, Danks told a press conference."Vince has had a virus, and it is important for him to rest," Danks said. "So he is at home. We are taking it day by day. He will play his role in the game whether in the Allianz Arena or not."As for Neuer, no decision has yet been made, Danks said, with the keeper back in training for the past two days. Kimmich's participation is equally unclear."For Joshua it is personal reasons. I am not sure what it means for tomorrow," Danks added.Bayern, already without suspended Michael Olise, want to bounce back in the competition after last week's 3-3 draw against Viking in Norway, and have been boosted by a 6-1 demolition of RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday."The key will be decided on small margins," Danks said. "We have to be prepared for every aspect of the game."We trust the process and the work we have done with the players in the last couple of seasons. We want them to play fearless and express themselves."

Diaz dazzles as Bayern batter Leipzig to go top

Luis Diaz hit a hat-trick as Bayern Munich pummelled a listless RB Leipzig 6-1 at home on Saturday to climb to the top of the Bundesliga table.Borussia Dortmund had edged ahead of Freiburg into top spot after their earlier draw at Union Berlin, but Bayern responded in typically ruthless fashion to take the summit.The dominant display was Bayern's best performance of the season and will boost their confidence days out from Wednesday's home Champions League clash with English champions Arsenal.Diaz had faced criticism after four league games without a goal but the Colombian sparked to life to terrorise Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann down the left.In his 100th Bundesliga match, Harry Kane scored a goal and laid on two assists as he pulled the strings from deep while Aleksandar Pavlovic and Michael Olise also got on the scoresheet.Confined to his chair with a hip complaint, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany produced a masterclass against opposite number Martin Demichelis, his former Manchester City teammate. BAYERN HAVE WON THREE GAMES AGAINST LEIPZIGBayern have now won their past three games against Leipzig by a combined scoreline of 17-1.Bayern had drawn their past two matches, a rare run of middling form for the German giants, but shook off the funk early, with Diaz, Pavlovic and Olise putting the hosts in control before half-time.Diaz scored either side of a Kane tap-in after the break, with the England captain withdrawn before the hour mark ahead of old rivals Arsenal's visit.Leipzig's Andrija Maksimovic got on the board with a late late consolation in stoppage time.Dortmund draw in BerlinDortmund missed a chance to stay ahead of Bayern after being held to a scoreless draw at Union Berlin.After starting the season strongly with six wins in a row in all competitions, Dortmund have stalled of late, drawing two and losing one of their last three matches."We simply have to get better in attack. Right now, it's just not good enough," Dortmund's Waldemar Anton told Sky.Serhou Guirassy had a golden chance to snatch all three points for his side at the end of a match of few opportunities, but headed just wide with 11 minutes remaining to cap a poor game up front for the Dortmund striker.It was the first draw between the two sides in their history, with each of their previous 16 clashes in all competitions producing a winner.Compounding Dortmund's woes was a serious-looking ankle injury to substitute midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas, who was helped from the pitch just eight minutes after coming on."Let's hope it's not too serious. He's not feeling great right now," Dortmund sporting director Ole Book told reporters.Stuttgart suffered a blow ahead of Tuesday's home Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, going down 1-0 at Hamburg after an 88th-minute Miro Muheim goal.Stuttgart are languishing in 13th in the Bundesliga with two wins and four defeats but have impressed in Europe this season to sit in fourth spot in the 36-team Champions League table after two matches.Elsewhere, promoted Elversberg continued their impressive debut season in the top flight, winning 4-3 at home to Augsburg.Lukas Petkov, Lasse Guenther, Maximilian Rohr and Frederik Schmahl got on the scoresheet as Elversberg, from the smallest town to ever host a Bundesliga side, climbed to sixth in the table.Niclas Fuellkrug scored for the fifth straight Bundesliga match as his brace helped Werder Bremen come from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home against Paderborn.The Germany striker returned to Bremen on loan after an unhappy spell at West Ham but now has seven goals in seven games in all competitions.A first-half goal for Phillip Tietz was enough for Mainz to win 1-0 at Schalke and climb to fifth in the standings.

Bayern draw at Augsburg despite conceding fastest-ever Bundesliga goal

Bayern Munich twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Augsburg on Saturday after a mistake from Manuel Neuer led to the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.Neuer handed Augsburg the lead after 8.4 seconds with an error that Robin Fellhauer capitalised on, before two assists from Harry Kane helped resuce a point in the second half. Bayern missed the chance to knock Borussia Dortmund off top spot after the draw and remain two points behind the league leaders in second."It feels more like a defeat. On another day we would have won this game, but that's football. We gave away two sloppy goals and they punished us for it," Kane told Dazn.Augsburg could not believe their luck after 40-year-old Neuer's howler handed them the lead after just eight seconds. Having received the ball straight from kick-off, Neuer chipped it directly into the path of Fellhauer, who ran it into the empty net."We would have preferred a better start, but Manu has played football long enough. He can't change what happened, he just needs to do what he's always done in his career and keep on showing how good he is," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany told Dazn.The Bundesliga later confirmed the goal had beaten the previous record of nine seconds held jointly by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi. "Those guys must have been really slow," Fellhauer told Sky with a laugh after the game."In all seriousness, it's an unbelievable feeling because a record like this means you're part of something really big."Bayern remained shellshocked for much of the first half and were lucky not to go 2-0 down when Juma Bah missed a sitter on 36 minutes. The visitors found the net shortly after the break when Augsburg 'keeper Finn Dahmen fumbled a brilliant volley from Luis Diaz, but the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.Ismael Saibari broke Augsburg's resistance a few minutes later as the Moroccan slotted the ball home after an elegant assist from Kane. Yet the hosts struck back quickly, thanks in part to another off-colour moment from Neuer.After Augsburg unlocked the defence with a long ball forward, Neuer parried Calvin Brackelmann's shot straight at Rodrigo Ribeiro, who smashed the ball under the bar to restore the lead.Both Diaz and Serge Gnabry had goals ruled out for offside before Kane set up Nathaniel Brown for Bayern's second equaliser ten minutes from time.Leverkusen win thrillerIn Saturday's late game, RB Leipzig rampaged to a 6-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to a Christopher Nkunku hat-trick. Goals from Ezechiel Banzuzi and Nkunku put Leipzig 2-0 up within five minutes.Just as Frankfurt were getting back into the game, Nkunku added two more quickfire goals on the stroke of half time. Antonio Nusa swept in a fifth after the break and Tidiam Gomis ran through the Frankfurt defence to add a sixth late in the game.There was also drama elsewhere, as Bayer Leverkusen grabbed a rollercoaster 4-3 win in Mainz while Hamburg snatched a late 3-2 win away at Hoffenheim. Robert Andrich gave Leverkusen the lead with a superb volley after just five minutes, before Patrik Schick doubled the lead with a smart finish four minutes later. Anthony Caci dragged Mainz back into the game, scoring twice to level the scores before half time. Second-half goals from Jarell Quansah and Moussa Diaby put Leverkusen back in control, before Benedict Hollerbach grabbed a late third for Mainz.Yussuf Poulsen bundled in an early opener for Hamburg, before Fisnik Asllani jabbed home an equally scrappy equaliser for Hoffenheim.Bambase Conte put Hoffenheim in the lead with a brilliant shot from outside the area early in the second half, but a red card for his team mate Bernardo swung the game back in Hamburg's favour.The visitors had one late equaliser ruled out by VAR before Terem Moffi equalised with an 83rd minute header and Miro Muheim grabbed a stoppage-time winner.In Saturday's other games, goals from Jeff Chabot and Chris Fuehrich sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for Stuttgart at Paderborn, while Livan Burcu struck late to hand Union Berlin a nervy 1-0 win at home to Elversberg.

Defending champions Bayern Munich were held to a scoreless draw by promoted Schalke in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The draw ended Bayern's run of 67 consecutive matchdays atop the Bundesliga table. It was the first time they failed to score since February 2025.Seven-time German champions Schalke have not beaten Bayern since 2011 and had not even taken a point off the Bavarian giants in nine years -- a run of 12 straight defeats. "That's who we are. That's what defines us, and everyone can be proud of their performance today," said the impressive Schalke goalie Loris Karius, who was named man of the match.The former Liverpool 'keeper deflected the post-match praise to his defenders, telling Sky Germany: "I just had to shout instructions to the lads: keep going, push up, drop back." With Harry Kane and Michael Olise starting from the bench, Bayern dominated the ball but created few clear chances as stubborn Schalke dug deep to pick up their first point of the season.Luis Diaz had an excellent chance with 54 minutes gone when through on the advancing Karius, but the Colombian's chip was too soft and was cleared off the line by Robin Gosens. Bayern's best chance came late when a long-range Kane effort was kept out by an excellent save from Karius, who leapt high to palm the ball to safety.His opposite number, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer was heavily booed by home fans every time he touched the ball on his return to the club where he started his career. It will likely be the 40-year-old's final match in Gelsenkirchen, his home town, before his expected retirement at the season's end."A win would have been nice," Neuer said, adding "but some of my family will be happy about the result and so it's okay as it is. I enjoyed myself." Despite the defeat, Bayern will be buoyed by the return of Jamal Musiala, who revealed he is suffering from a neurological condition after collapsing in pre-season games. Nwaneri helps Dortmund on debutArsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri provoked a late own goal as Borussia Dortmund came from two down to win 3-2 at Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim were the better team for the opening hour but lost their way as Dortmund clicked into gear and romped to victory with three goals in the final 30 minutes.Nwaneri, the youngest player in Premier League history, arrived on a season-long loan from Arsenal on deadline day and came on with half an hour played. "I liked what I saw," Dortmund coach Niko Kovac said of Nwaneri. "That's what we brought him in for... Maybe it wasn't officially his goal, but he created it.""The team played all or nothing football," Kovac added. "And when you (do that)... the gaps start opening up." Hoffenheim were two up with 54 minutes played thanks to goals from Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle.Striker Serhou Guirassy gave the visitors hope when he scored just after the hour mark and then set up Fabio Silva five minutes later. In the 86th minute, Nwaneri cut down the left and squared a shot which took a big deflection off home defender Albian Hajdari and landed in the net.Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg continued their excellent top-flight arrival with a 4-3 win at Borussia Moenchengladbach, making it two wins from two this season. Elversberg fought back from 3-1 down and took the lead in stoppage time when Maurice Krattenmacher scored the winner. Elversberg, with a population of just 13,000, are the smallest town ever to have a German top-flight side but opened the season with a shock 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen last week. Leverkusen rebounded from that disappointment by putting sorry Union Berlin to the sword in a 4-0 home victory, with Argentina internationals Equi Fernandez and Facundo Medina, Patrik Schick and Ibrahim Maza on target.Elsewhere, West Ham loanee Niclas Fuellkrug scored his second goal in three games since returning to Germany to help Werder Bremen to a surprise 3-1 home win against RB Leipzig. Europa League finalists Freiburg continued their perfect start to the season with a solid 1-0 win away at promoted Paderborn.

PSG and Enrique sweat on Vitinha ahead of Champions League semis

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique said Tuesday he was unsure if midfield metronome Vitinha would be fit to play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.The Portuguese central midfielder will miss PSG's Ligue 1 clash against Nantes on Wednesday due to a heel inflammation."We'll take a calm and measured approach to see how the injured players can make a comeback. But I don't know," he told reporters when asked if Vitinha would be back in time for next Tuesday's semi-final first leg at the Parc des Princes."We need to manage Vitinha's minor injury; some players are a bit tired or have a few niggles," the Spaniard also told PSGTV.Should the 26-year-old be unavailable, his place at the heart of the PSG midfield could be filled by the returning Fabian Ruiz.Alongside Vitinha and Joao Neves, Ruiz formed the midfield trio that anchored much of PSG's success last season as they won a maiden Champions League title and lifted the Ligue 1 trophy.The Spaniard returned for the final 18 minutes of PSG's 2-1 league loss at home to Lyon last weekend as he continues his comeback from a knee injury.Luis Enrique cooled expectations on the 30-year-old, however, as he said Ruiz would need "time to regain fitness" after spending three months on the sidelines."Fabian Ruiz needs more matches and minutes to recover," Luis Enrique insisted, before adding he was nonetheless "happy" with his return against Lyon.The former Barcelona and Spain coach warned that even as PSG close in on a repeat of their double-winning season this term, he still demands "more" from all his charges.Exciting Senegalese 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye was not included in the squad for Sunday's defeat to Lyon, with Luis Enrique explaining: "Every minute you get to play for PSG must be special."I have no regrets about Mbaye, but you have to be ready. He was ready, but I expect much more from all the players."Victory in the French capital against Nantes on Wednesday would send PSG three points clear of surprise Ligue 1 title challengers Lens with five matches remaining in the campaign.

Bayern sink Stuttgart to claim Bundesliga title

Harry Kane scored his 32nd goal of the campaign as Bayern Munich cruised to a 4-2 home win over Stuttgart to claim a record-extending 35th Bundesliga title. Raphael Guerreiro, Nicolas Jackson and Alphonso Davies joined Kane on the scoresheet, while Chris Fuehrich and Chema Andres scored for the visitors. Borussia Dortmund’s limp 2-1 defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday, their second in two matches, left the door open for Bayern, who only needed a point at home to secure the title with four games to spare. “It’s been a fantastic season for us,” said Bundesliga leading scorer Kane. “To finish the league off in the way we have with the goals we scored... credit to the lads... we still have a lot to play for... but all the hard work, this makes it all worth it.” Coach Vincent Kompany left regular starters Kane, Michael Olise, Manuel Neuer, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah on the bench with Wednesday’s German Cup semi-final at Bayer Leverkusen in mind. Bayern fell behind when Chris Fuehrich scored with 21 minutes gone but roared back, scoring three goals in seven minutes. Jamal Musiala created Guerreiro’s opener before Luis Diaz laid on two goals in four minutes for Jackson and Davies to grab control of the match by the break. Kane grabbed another early in the second-half to ensure another Bundesliga crown was quickly added to his burgeoning team trophy collection. With victory secure, Bayern took their foot off the pedal as an assistant brought bags full with ‘2026 Champions’ t-shirts to the sideline. Andres added a late goal for Stuttgart with two minutes remaining but Bayern were on cruise control with title celebrations in mind. The title victory once again illustrated Bayern’s modern and historical dominance of German football. The Bavarian giants have now won 13 of the past 14 Bundesliga titles. Bayern have 35 league titles, with no other team reaching double figures. Bayern’s wealth and influence outshines all of their domestic rivals and this season has been truly remarkable. Bayern have scored 109 goals, the most in Bundesliga history and eight more than the previous record set back in 1971-72, with four games remaining. Free-scoring Bayern have 79 points and a goal difference of 80. If the season ended today, Bayern would become the first team to have a greater goal difference than points tally in Bundesliga history. With four wins in their remaining four games, Bayern could bring up 91 points, equalling the best mark set by their treble-bound side in 2012-13. Then there are the individual records. Kane, who became the first Englishman since 1930-31 to reach a half-century of goals in a season in all competitions on Wednesday, can still reach Robert Lewandowski’s single-season goals record of 41. The England captain has 32 goals from his 27 games this campaign and is in with an outside chance of catching Lewandowski. Michael Olise has 18 assists, three shy of the all-time mark set by Thomas Mueller in 2019-20. Earlier, Freiburg pushed last-placed Heidenheim closer to the drop with a 2-1 home win. Johan Manzambi put the Europa League semi-finalists ahead after 24 minutes but Heidenheim’s Budu Zivzivadze levelled things up just before the hour mark. Freiburg’s Maximilian Eggestein scored the winner with seven minutes remaining to help his side leapfrog Eintracht Frankfurt into seventh spot. The defeat leaves Heidenheim, who hosted Chelsea in the Europa Conference League last season, seven points behind the relegation play-off spot and 11 from safety with four games to play.

Bayern on cusp of title as Dortmund lose

Bayern Munich edged closer to the Bundesliga title after Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 at Hoffenheim, while pioneering Union Berlin coach Marie-Louise Eta was beaten on her debut.Second-placed Dortmund’s defeat leaves Bayern, who host Stuttgart Sunday, 12 points clear with a game in hand. The defending champions need just a point to claim their 35th German title. Club record goalscorer Andrej Kramaric converted two penalties, bringing his career total to 156 for Hoffenheim, to help the hosts move past Bayer Leverkusen into fifth spot. Unlike Dortmund, who have all but locked up second place, Hoffenheim still have plenty to play for as they chase a Champions League berth, and dominated proceedings in the opening half. Just before the break, Dortmund defender Niklas Suele fell awkwardly in the box and handled the ball. Kramaric converted the penalty as Suele was helped from the pitch with a knee injury. Substitute Serhou Guirassy pulled one back for the visitors but Hoffenheim were awarded another penalty in stoppage time, which Kramaric once more dispatched to grab victory. Dortmund have now lost their past two matches, having previously suffered just two defeats across the entire campaign. New Union coach Eta, the first female manager of a men’s team in the top five European leagues, suffered a setback on her debut, going down 2-1 at home to relegation battlers Wolfsburg. Appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season, Eta received a rapturous response from the home crowd when her name was announced pre-match. Union were quickly on the back foot when Patrick Wimmer scored after 11 minutes. Dzenan Pejcinovic added another just after the break to help Wolfsburg move two points behind St Pauli in the relegation play-off spot and six from safety. Union’s Oliver Burke scored a late goal but despite the defeat, the Berliners remain six points ahead of the relegation play-off spot with four games left to play this season. Leverkusen dropped to sixth after losing 2-1 at home against mid-table Augsburg. Patrik Schick headed Leverkusen in front after 12 minutes but Augsburg pegged them back just three minutes later when Fabian Rieder’s shot took a deflection off Jarell Quansah and went in. Rieder converted a penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time to deal a hammer blow to Leverkusen’s top-four hopes. Elsewhere, Werder Bremen picked up crucial points in the battle to beat the drop, winning 3-1 at home to northern rivals Hamburg, who finished the match with nine men. Jens Stage bagged a double either side of a Robert Glatzel strike. Cameron Puertas added a late goal to help Bremen move five points clear of the bottom three and level with Hamburg. RB Leipzig moved five points clear of fifth spot with a 3-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kane bags brace as Bayern end Dortmund's title hopes

Harry Kane scored twice and Joshua Kimmich bagged a late winner as Bayern Munich came back to win 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday and move 11 points clear in the Bundesliga.Bayern trailed at half-time after Nico Schlotterbeck headed Dortmund in front but Kane scored a tap-in and a penalty.Dortmund levelled through Daniel Svensson but Kimmich was in the right place to blast in from close range with three minutes remaining to leave Bayern as runaway favourites for the title.The result all but sews up another Bundesliga crown for the Bavarian giants with only 10 matchdays remaining, while continuing Dortmund's rough week, just days after their Champions League exit at Atalanta.Dortmund have now lost just twice in 24 league matches this season, both times to Bayern.Kane's fourth successive Bundesliga brace took him to 30 goals from 24 games this season.Bayern had played two fewer matches in the past 11 days but Dortmund looked the fresher early on as they chased a victory to move them five points behind the leaders.With 18 minutes gone, Schlotterbeck caught Josip Stanisic on the shin with his studs. Despite Bayern demanding the Germany defender see red, Schlotterbeck was shown a yellow card.The centre-back was in the thick of the action again just eight minutes later when he rose high to head in a Daniel Svensson corner and put Dortmund in front.Dortmund kept up the energy after the break but Bayern levelled things up against the run of play in simple fashion.Kimmich chipped the ball over the Dortmund defence, onto the head of Serge Gnabry who squared for Kane to score in the 54th minute.With just over 20 minutes remaining, Stanisic tussled with Schlotterbeck again and the Bayern player went down after the defender clipped his trailing leg, bringing Kane to the spot.The England captain converted to give Bayern the lead. Kane now has nine goals in his past five Bundesliga games, four of which have come from the penalty spot.Dortmund pushed forward in response and Marcel Sabitzer floated in a cross which Svensson swept home to give them hope on 83 minutes.Not content to play for a draw, Bayern sought the goal which would all but secure them the league title.That moment came as Kimmich did remarkably well to adjust his body and hammer in the decisive strike with his left foot after Dortmund had failed to adequately clear a Michael Olise cross in the 87th minute. Leverkusen grab pointFormer Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah scored with two minutes remaining to snatch Bayer Leverkusen a 1-1 home draw with Mainz.Leverkusen trailed after an excellent Sheraldo Becker goal but Quansah squeezed the ball in at the near post late on.The point moved Leverkusen, who have a game in hand to be played at Hamburg on Wednesday, three behind fourth-placed Stuttgart.Leverkusen looked leggy after a hard-fought scoreless Champions League draw with Olympiacos midweek, which sent them through to the last 16 where they will face Arsenal.Moments before half-time, Leverkusen right-back Arthur was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.Elsewhere, St Pauli's resurgence continued with a 1-0 win at high-flying Hoffenheim, with Mathias Pereira Lage's goal just before half-time the difference.Pauli have won three of their past four to climb out of the relegation spots, while third-placed Hoffenheim have picked up just four points in their past four games.Borussia Moenchengladbach's Kevin Diks converted a penalty four minutes into stoppage time to take his side to a crucial 1-0 win over Union Berlin.Gladbach's first win since early January took them three points clear of the relegation playoff spot.Fellow battlers Werder Bremen also picked up a crucial victory, winning 2-0 at home to last-placed Heidenheim to move out of the automatic relegation placings.Double winners in 2004, Bremen had picked up just four points in 13 games since their last win in early November, but won thanks to a Jovan Milosevic strike and a late Heidenheim own goal.
