The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), through its Department of Mosques, has unveiled "Minbar" — a smart application designed to lift the Friday sermon out of the confines of time and place and carry it, intact, into the rhythm of everyday life.The launch sits squarely within the ministry's wider digital transformation drive, an attempt to widen the reach of the mosque and let its message travel as freely as the people who receive it.Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, Director of the Department of Mosques, said the initiative reflects a commitment to delivering trustworthy, accessible Islamic content with the help of artificial intelligence. The aim, he explained, is to turn the khutba from a fixed weekly event into a continuous, interactive companion that reaches worshippers wherever they happen to be.The app is built around a cluster of intelligent features. It renders sermons into English through AI-powered translation, offers multilingual summaries in Arabic and English, and provides simplified versions shaped for children. Interactive question-and-answer content, drawn directly from each sermon, is included to deepen understanding and encourage practical application.Users can also watch Friday prayers live, dip into a complete archive of past sermons, and move comfortably through a bilingual Arabic-English interface. The director said these tools are meant to make religious content both more engaging and more widely available.The audience, he stressed, is deliberately broad: non-Arabic speakers, children, women, travellers and those whose circumstances keep them from the mosque, alongside anyone simply wishing to grasp the Friday message more fully. The app also opens a door for non-Muslims to learn about Islamic values and teachings from a reliable source.According to the ministry, "Minbar" tightens the bond between the mosque's voice and the digital platforms now central to daily life, supporting the spread of authentic religious knowledge and the promotion of moderation and awareness through modern means. Future updates, it added, will introduce AI-based audio translation and further interactive features guided by user feedback. 

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) implemented the 'Eid Joy' initiative coinciding with Eid al-Adha. The Directorate distributed 4,000 gifts to children in 19 mosques across the country during Eid prayers, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the social impact of endowments and revive the spirit of joy during this occasion.The initiative was met with widespread participation from families and children, putting a smile on their faces and contributing to a festive atmosphere after the Eid prayers. This reflects the humanitarian and social values ​​that endowments instil in society.The initiative is part of a series of community programs implemented by the General Directorate of Endowments, which aim to maximise the impact of endowments and strengthen their role in serving various segments of society, particularly during religious occasions that hold profound spiritual and social dimensions.Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments Engineer Hassan Abdullah al-Marzouqi stated that the 'Eid Joy' initiative is an extension of the Directorate's community role in promoting the culture of endowments and reinforcing the societal values ​​associated with Eid al-Adha, highlighting their keenness to share the joy of religious occasions with children.The initiative, he said, reflects the Directorate's commitment to maximising the societal impact of endowments and activating their role in contributing to various humanitarian aspects. It strengthens community cohesion and embodies the image of endowments as a sustainable development tool that serves humanity on various occasions.While affirming the General Directorate of Endowments' continued commitment to launching impactful initiatives that respond to community needs and contribute to spreading positive values, stemming from its mission to utilise endowments to serve humanity, he expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the generous donors, especially those who donated to the Masraf Waqfi for Family and Childhood, for their significant contribution to the success of these initiatives and the achievement of their objectives. 

The Shariah Unit of the Qatari Haj Mission has convened a co-ordination meeting with religious scholars accompanying 18 Qatari Haj campaigns ahead of this year's pilgrimage season.The move was part of the preparations for this pilgrimage season in terms of Dawah and guidance aspects, as well as the combined efforts the mission undertakes to provide religious support to the pilgrims of Qatar while they perform rites.Being part of the strategic plan pursued by Qatar's Awqaf Ministry, the meeting focused on advancing the guidance services provided to pilgrims and strengthening their religious awareness.Head of the Shariah Unit at the Qatari mission Sheikh Dr Mohammed Mahmoud al-Mahmoud, underscored the importance of the pivotal role undertaken by those scholars as the core pillar of strengthening the pilgrims' awareness and guiding them to correctly perform the rites consistently with the Shariah and Prophetic Sunnah.This role, he noted, would promote the true meaning of discipline and righteousness when it comes to dealing with others in times of crowds and commutation between the Holy Sites.Capitalising on these blessed days matters more as pilgrims need to multiply good deeds through supplication and reading the Holy Qur'an, al-Mahmoud urged, suggesting that they should be escorted during their commutation in multiple Holy Sites to ensure they correctly perform these rites based on the proper Shariah guidance.Al-Mahmoud further recalled that members of the unit and those Shariah scholars flanking these campaigns will be ubiquitous onsite starting from Tuesday in Mina until standing at Mount Arafat and spending the night in Muzdalifa to provide fatwas and answer inquiries inside the tents.He asserted that those scholars are mostly Qatari qualified individuals who are well-versed in Islamic science and Shariah who had been meticulously co-opted to engage in delivering religious lessons within an integrated programme that promotes Shariah awareness.The unit will operate in direct and constant co-ordination with the communication and support unit in unison to serve pilgrims 24/7, something that would help respond promptly to the emergency inquiries inside tents at the Holy Sites, al-Mahmoud assured.In this regard, al-Mahmoud urged campaign operators to persistently collaborate with those scholars in facilitating their mission to have successful guidance programmes, explaining that the tents had been equipped with all kinds of amenities.The meeting delved into the contemporary jurisprudence matters and Shariah inquiries the unit received throughout the past days, and it was agreed to unify answers provided to pilgrims in pursuit of unifying the Shariah narrative.In addition, the meeting touched on the mechanism of the pilgrims flocking through the trains of the Holy Sites, along with the criticality of assisting Qatar's pilgrims on the need to uphold the regulatory measures of commutation times.What matters most is pilgrims' adherence to the instructions rendered by the Qatari Mission and the authoritative agencies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to expedite flocking and ensure their movement flow and safety amid the large crowds, the meeting underlined.As the meeting wrapped up, al-Mahmoud affirmed that he is satisfied with the readiness level and the existing co-ordination among a variety of units of this mission and campaign operators.He stressed that what has been achieved demonstrates the State of Qatar's commitment, represented by Awqaf Ministry and the Mission, to providing top-notch Shariah care to pilgrims and ensuring they perform rites in a serene environment. 

HE Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs and Head of the Qatari Haj Mission, Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanim, conducted an inspection tour of the Qatari pilgrims’ camps in Mina and Arafat to review preparations and ensure the readiness of facilities and services ahead of the Haj season. The tour focused on assessing technical, organizational, and medical preparations to ensure Qatari pilgrims can perform their rituals in comfort, safety, and peace of mind. HE the Minister was accompanied by Consul General of the State of Qatar in Jeddah Rashid bin Saeed al-Khayarin, Assistant Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs at the Awqaf Ministry Khalid bin Shaheen al-Ghanim, Deputy Head of the Qatari Haj Mission Ali bin Sultan al-Musaifri, members of the advisory committee, and several heads of service and technical support units. The tour began in Arafat, where officials from Makkah Hospitality Company briefed the delegation on development projects and service upgrades carried out at the camps. The company is responsible for preparing and operating the facilities for Qatari pilgrims.Officials said the camps have been equipped in accordance with the highest standards and specifications approved by the Qatari Haj Mission, providing a fully integrated environment focused on pilgrims’ comfort and safety.The Arafat camp has undergone extensive upgrades over the past two Haj seasons, including improvements to infrastructure and service facilities. The camp features air-conditioned tents, furnished rest areas, cooling systems, paved walkways, and dedicated spaces for worship and relaxation. The mission has continued to use heat-insulated PVC tents introduced last season, while high-efficiency air-conditioning systems have been tested to ensure their effectiveness during periods of high temperatures. Pilgrims will be provided with seating that can be converted into beds, personal tables, and access to open buffet stations offering refreshments, beverages, and meals throughout the day. The camp also includes eight fully equipped restroom facilities for men and women, designed in line with the highest standards of hygiene and safety. As part of its healthcare preparations, the mission has established separate medical clinics for men and women in Arafat, equipped with consultation, examination, observation, and isolation rooms, as well as pharmacies and emergency facilities. A fully equipped ambulance, a rapid-response scooter, and advanced emergency medical equipment have also been deployed to strengthen emergency response capabilities within the holy sites. The healthcare team includes doctors, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists who will accompany pilgrims throughout the Haj journey to provide continuous medical support. The mission has also provided dedicated facilities and services for elderly pilgrims and persons with disabilities, including specially designed pathways, entrances, and restrooms to facilitate mobility and ensure ease of access throughout the camps. During a tour of Mina, HE Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanim, inspected the camps, which have been equipped to the highest standards and with the best materials. Separate camps have been designated for men and women, with all essential facilities and services provided for Qatari pilgrims during their stay in Mina. Officials from Makkah Hospitality Company confirmed that the Mina camps are equipped with multi-purpose seating for each pilgrim, which can be used as a bed or a seat. Each pilgrim also has a dedicated dining and reading table, and each seat is equipped with an individual power outlet with mobile phone charging capabilities. Overhead lockers are also provided for storing personal belongings, contributing to the comfort of Qatari pilgrims and facilitating their daily needs. The camps also include dining halls and open buffets stocked with refrigerators stocked with water, juices, and cold drinks. These facilities operate around the clock to meet the needs of Qatari pilgrims and provide them with the necessary food and beverages throughout their stay until the last day of Tashreeq. At the conclusion of the tour, HE the Minister commended the significant efforts of Makkah Hospitality Company and its ongoing co-operation with the Qatari Haj Mission units in implementing and equipping the camps according to the highest organizational and service standards. He also expressed his appreciation for the commendable efforts of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, and the Ministry of Haj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the advanced facilities and integrated operational system they provide to serve the pilgrims, enabling them to perform their rituals with ease, comfort, and safety. HE the Minister affirmed that Qatar, under the directives of its wise leadership, places the comfort and safety of its pilgrims at the forefront of its priorities. Through its official mission, Qatar continues to provide a comprehensive system of logistical, medical, and religious services according to the highest standards, ensuring a safe and convenient Haj experience that reflects the State’s distinguished image in serving Qatari pilgrims. He pointed out that these efforts are in line with the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs’ strategy (2025-2030), which gives special attention to the Haj file by developing the services provided to pilgrims, enhancing the quality of performance and beneficiary satisfaction, to achieve a model and safe Haj experience befitting the pilgrims of the State of Qatar. 

The Department of Zakat Affairs at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs in Qatar achieved notable results during the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, reflecting the efficiency of its institutional framework and the success of efforts to enhance zakat services and maximise social impact, in line with its vision to promote a culture of zakat and strengthen principles of social solidarity. Head of the Zakat Services Section Ahmed Jaber al-Jarbouei said that zakat revenues recorded a significant growth of 17% compared to the same period in 2025, noting that this increase reflects growing trust among individuals and companies in the department, as well as rising awareness of the importance of fulfilling this obligation in accordance with Islamic principles. He said that this growth is the result of integrated efforts combining awareness and media outreach, the development of service channels, and expanded use of digital solutions that make it easier for contributors to fulfil their obligations. On the disbursement side, al-Jarbouei said that total assistance provided to eligible families within Qatar during the first quarter reached QR53,370,807, reflecting the department’s commitment to distributing zakat funds to rightful beneficiaries in accordance with Islamic guidelines, thereby supporting social stability and assisting the most vulnerable groups. He noted that this assistance covered several areas, including periodic aid amounting to QR8,716,800, one-time assistance totalling QR20,880,063, medical aid of QR13,294,006, support for debtors amounting to QR2,169,038, and assistance to families benefiting from social security totalling QR5,706,000. Additional support of QR2,604,900 was also provided to residents from Gaza in Qatar as part of the department’s humanitarian role. He added that special attention was given to Zakat Al-Fitr, with 22,100 beneficiaries receiving support during the same period, reflecting the department’s commitment to delivering this assistance on time with a high level of organisation and accuracy. Regarding public services, al-Jarbouei said the department processed 1,247 assistance requests during the first quarter and handled 2,020 religious inquiries through its various channels, highlighting its educational and advisory role in clarifying zakat rulings and enhancing public understanding of how to calculate and pay it. He also said that the department continued to strengthen its field presence and direct engagement with the business sector, conducting 151 field visits to local companies to provide religious and financial consultations on corporate zakat and to introduce them to available services, thereby fostering effective partnerships with this vital sector. As part of its digital transformation efforts, he noted that the department made significant progress by launching an online corporate zakat calculation service through its official website, which was used by 220 companies during the first quarter, reflecting a commitment to simplifying procedures and aligning with best practices in government service delivery. Al-Jarbouei emphasised that these achievements stem from integrated field and media efforts aimed at raising community awareness of the importance of zakat and reinforcing its role as a key pillar of sustainable development.He concluded by affirming that the Zakat Affairs Department will continue to develop its service system and enhance its awareness and technological initiatives in line with community expectations, in order to maximise the impact of zakat and fulfil its mission of supporting those in need and promoting social solidarity. 

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has reaffirmed its continued support for Al Tamakon Comprehensive School (also known as Al Tamakon for Comprehensive Education) to strengthen the stability of the educational journey for students with disabilities and provide a safe, stimulating learning environment that promotes equal opportunities and social integration.In a statement Sunday, the ministry said the support reflects a comprehensive vision to advance equal educational opportunities for vulnerable groups by easing financial burdens on families and enabling students to fully benefit from specialised academic and rehabilitation programs. It noted that the initiative contributes to improved educational outcomes, personal development, and greater confidence among students, supporting their effective participation in society.Speaking at a press conference, Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments Engineer Hassan bin Abdullah al-Marzouqi said that investing in education represents an investment in the future, emphasising that empowering persons with disabilities academically and intellectually is both a societal responsibility and a moral duty.He added that the Directorate continues to support Al Tamakon Comprehensive School through the Waqf (Endowment) Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development and the Waqf Fund for Healthcare, helping provide a high-quality educational environment that enables students with disabilities to learn, grow, and realise their potential.Al-Marzouqi stressed that the strength of societies is measured by their ability to empower all members and ensure equal opportunities, highlighting the role of endowments in promoting inclusive education, enhancing independence, and supporting the integration of students with disabilities into society so they can achieve their aspirations.For his part, Head of the Digital Quality Unit at Al Tamakon Comprehensive School Engineer Abdulsalam al-Yassin said that the ministry's support has been a cornerstone in ensuring the continuity and stability of the educational journey for students with disabilities.He noted that the support extends beyond covering tuition fees, reflecting a firm belief that education is an inherent right for every student and a strategic investment in the future and quality of life of children.Al-Yassin added that the partnership represents an effective model of cooperation between educational institutions and supporting entities, supported by a precise mechanism to assess the stability of students' educational progress within their families' living conditions according to clear criteria. This ensures fairness and transparency, preserves donor confidence, and enhances the sustainability of educational impact.The Waqf Bank for Scientific and Cultural Development is among the endowment entities dedicated to supporting educational and scientific initiatives and sponsoring knowledge-based programs that contribute to human development and capacity-building by directing endowment proceeds toward high-quality educational projects and institutions serving diverse segments of society.The ongoing co-operation reflects a successful national model for utilising endowment resources to support the education of persons with disabilities, reinforcing social solidarity values and contributing to building a more inclusive and sustainable society.

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has restated its yearly pledge to direct waqf funds to vulnerable groups during key charitable periods, led by the holy month of Ramadan. This commitment is reflected in the continuation of the 'Giving Basket' initiative, organised with the Hifz Al Naema Center and financed by the Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety, through which essential food items are supplied to more than 2,000 low-income families across Qatar.Director-General Eng Hassan bin Abdullah al-Marzouqi underlined that the directorate prioritises delivering charitable endowments to those entitled to them, particularly during Ramadan, when social solidarity and compassion are especially prominent. He said the Giving Basket programme is closely aligned with the purpose of waqf in serving society and illustrates practical social cohesion, made possible by donors’ contributions and the participation of implementing partners.Al-Marzouqi noted that the project offers a working example of coordination between the General Directorate of Endowments and the Hifz Al Naema Center. Under the scheme, full food baskets are provided to help cover the basic needs of families facing financial hardship, with an emphasis on delivering assistance promptly and respectfully.He added that the directorate continues to pursue and expand partnerships within the community in order to generate lasting humanitarian benefits, ease the burdens on struggling households and embed a stronger culture of mutual support in Qatari society. Hifz Al Naema Center Director Ali Ayed al-Qahtani said the current edition of the Giving Basket marks the sixth year of co-operation with the General Directorate of Endowments, which he said demonstrates the project’s continuity and effectiveness in reaching families in need throughout the country.Al-Qahtani explained that the initiative is designed to offer integrated food parcels that help beneficiaries meet their needs throughout Ramadan, thereby strengthening food security and supporting those who qualify for assistance. He urged benefactors to continue backing waqf-based programmes that deliver enduring humanitarian outcomes, stressing that collaboration between donors and operational institutions reinforces social solidarity and confirms waqf’s role as a key instrument of development and community service.The Giving Basket initiative is among several waqf-backed programmes run by the General Directorate of Endowments to ensure that endowment proceeds are directed to specific funds and purposes as stipulated by donors. It supports the continuity of charitable work and widens the reach of assistance to those most in need, particularly during periods traditionally associated with giving and generosity. 

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs honoured participants and instructors in the programmes and courses of the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute for the year 2025, during a ceremony held at Imam Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque. The award ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem al-Ghanem, Undersecretary of the Ministry Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Da‘wah and Mosques Affairs Mohammed bin Hamad al- Kuwari, and several ministry directors and professionals working in the field of da‘wah. This was part of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ ongoing efforts to raise the standards of imams, preachers, khateebs, muezzins, researchers, and Islamic jurists, and its commitment to qualifying them academically and professionally, enabling them to fulfil their educational and da‘wah mission on sound scholarly foundations that keep pace with the requirements of the modern era. The ceremony recognised a distinguished group of outstanding participants in scientific, skills-based, and specialised courses. The total number of beneficiaries of the Institute’s programmes during 2025 reached approximately 2,900, encompassing Shariah, knowledge-based, skills, administrative, and specialised programmes targeting various categories working in the da‘wah field. On this occasion, Director of the Da‘wah and Religious Guidance Department at the ministry Jassim al-Ali, said that the recognition represents a culmination of a journey of scholarly and da‘wah contributions. He noted that imams and preachers are the cornerstone of educational development and societal reform, and that their mission goes beyond the performance of rituals to include education, guidance, and awareness-building. He stressed the importance of continuing to seek knowledge and develop skills in line with contemporary developments, serving societal issues with a spirit of moderation and balance. For his part, participant Abdulrahman al-Bakri, one of the graduates of the New Qatari Imams Qualification Course, delivered a speech on behalf of the newly qualified Qatari imams, expressing his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Awqaf and the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute for the high-quality foundational programmes. He affirmed that the imamate was a responsibility, and a lifelong mission that requires good example and a balanced, conscious connection between society and religion. In this context, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs affirmed that the programmes of the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute are among the comprehensive, high-quality initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic and professional competence of imams and preachers. The ceremony concluded with handing out of certificates to outstanding participants and instructors.  

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), honoured students who participated in the second school Arabic calligraphy competition, ‘Al-Raqeem’, for the year 2025, in recognition of their efforts and distinguished participation. The competition targeted male and female students from both public and private schools. The honouring ceremony was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanim al-Thani and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi along with a number of educators and members of the ‘Al-Raqeem’ competition committee. The Undersecretary of Awqaf praised the integrative partnership between the two ministries, affirming that the ‘Al-Raqeem’ competition represents a successful model of institutional co-operation aimed at instilling aesthetic and educational values among students. He noted that the initiative strengthens students’ connection to the Holy Qur’an and Arab-Islamic identity through an authentic visual art Arabic calligraphy. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education commended the efforts of the organising committee, emphasising that integrating traditional arts into the educational process contributes to the development of students’ aesthetic sensibilities and the reinforcement of moral and human values. He added that the wide participation witnessed in the competition reflects its success and the strong engagement of the educational field. The second edition of the school Arabic calligraphy competition, which launched in October and continued through December 2025, saw the participation of 479 male and female students from 24 public and private schools at the preparatory and secondary levels. This included four schools for students with disabilities, for both boys and girls – an important step reflecting the inclusivity of the competition and the breadth of its educational impact. Students competed in the Ruq’ah script by writing the 23rd verse of Sourat Al-Isra. This choice aimed to link Arabic calligraphy skills with lofty moral values, foremost among them filial piety. Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition (Al-Raqeem), Dr Saleh bin Ali al-Akhn al-Marri affirmed that the competition seeks to restore Arabic calligraphy to its rightful status as a core component of Arab and Islamic cultural identity. He explained that directing the competition towards school students aims to nurture a generation that appreciates artistic beauty rooted in Qur’anic values and understands the significance of Arabic calligraphy within the Arabic Islamic Nation’s civilisational heritage. He added that the wide participation this year, along with the inclusion of schools for students with disabilities, clearly demonstrates the success of the initiative and motivates the organising committee to further develop future editions and expand its scope in service of its cultural and educational mission. The competition also featured introductory programmes and awareness workshops for participating students, including visual presentations on the history of Arabic calligraphy, its various styles, and tools. Training booklets and specialised Ruq’ah calligraphy pens were distributed to support students in developing their artistic skills and preparing for the final evaluations. The competition is held under the supervision of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and the Museum of Islamic Art, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education through its departments of programmes and activities, private schools, and kindergartens, with direct supervision from the administrations of participating schools. Regarding participation statistics, the 2025 school edition of the Al-Raqeem Arabic calligraphy competition witnessed broad engagement from public and private schools, with a total of 479 students of various nationalities, including 110 Qatari students. Among public schools, 258 students from ten schools participated, namely Ibn Khaldoun Preparatory School for Boys, Abu Ubaidah Preparatory School for Boys, Hassan bin Thabit Secondary School for Boys, Omar bin Al-Khattab Secondary School for Boys, Al-Hidaya School for Boys with Disabilities, Granada Preparatory School for Girls, Zainab Preparatory School for Girls, Al-Shaymaa Secondary School for Girls, Al-Risala Secondary School for Girls, and Al-Hidaya School for Girls with Disabilities. Private schools accounted for 221 participants representing fourteen schools, namely My School Academy, Global Universe Academy (Al-Waab), Al-Salam Fifth School, Queens International School, Palestinian School for Boys, Al-Furqan Secondary School for Boys, Al-Zaitoun International School (Al-Thumama), Cambridge International School, Next Generation School, Galileo International School, Al-Andalus School for Girls, Edison International School (Mureikh), Al-Maha Academy for Girls with Disabilities, and Al-Awsaj Academy for Students with Disabilities. 

The Department of Islamic Research and Studies at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, in collaboration with the Mosques Administration, has opened a new branch of the adjudicated Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani Waqf Award, dedicated to imams, preachers, and muezzins.Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies, Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem al-Thani, highlighted that the award constitutes a vital addition to the department's portfolio of cultural initiatives, demonstrating Awqaf's unstinting commitment to growing the intellectual capacities and research potential of imams, preachers, and muezzins.The award intends to support the department's pathway toward advancing the formation of the Imam-Educator, a faith leader with specialised competence in family life, social engagement, and educational development, while encouraging imams, preachers, and muezzins to engage seriously in Islamic scholarship and applied, community-based research, Sheikh Dr Ahmed pointed out.He further indicated that this engagement is intended to bring their intellectual capacities and thought leadership to the fore, enabling them to propose practical, faith-informed solutions to community challenges in a manner that meaningfully serves society.The initiative further aims to leverage outstanding research outputs in the development of Friday khutbah (sermon), educational lessons, and mosque-based awareness programmes, thereby reinforcing the mosque's role as a hub for community education, moral guidance, and social resilience, he said.Sheikh Dr Ahmed added that the award selected for its inaugural theme "values-based stability in the Muslim community” and the role of imams and preachers in safeguarding identity, ethics, and culture, in view of their critical importance, to be addressed through five principal themes.He elucidated that the first theme addresses the theoretical framework of the proposed topic, introducing its core concepts, foremost among them the notion of values-based stability, its standing within Islamic Sharia, and its foundational sources in the Holy Qur'an and the Prophetic Sunnah.This theme, he says, further examines the concepts of identity, ethics, and culture through the epistemological lens of revelation-based knowledge, clarifying their interrelationship and their collective role in fostering values-based stability within the Muslim community.He noted that the second theme explores the historical standing of the mosque, spotlighting its educational and social function as a community hub, and articulating its role in reinforcing values-based stability, safeguarding Islamic identity, and deepening ethical foundations.The third theme reviews the role of the imam in advancing values-based stability, outlining their standing and educational and da‘wah-oriented responsibilities, as well as the contribution of the minbar and structured lessons to guiding individuals and building community awareness in accordance with Islamic values, Sheikh Dr Ahmed explained.He further indicated that the fourth theme drills down on mechanisms of values reinforcement, addressing the practical tools available to imams, including lessons, educational programs, youth and family activities, and study circles, in addition to avenues for collaboration between mosques and community, educational, and media institutions.As for the fifth theme of the award, Sheikh Dr Ahmed noted that it will address contemporary intellectual, media, and social challenges that pose concrete threats to identity, values, and culture, while exploring viable responses and remedial approaches.This fifth theme is intended to outline the broad contours of a practical strategy aimed at strengthening identity, values, and culture, and at effectuating the role of imams in propagating these principles throughout society, he added.For his part, Director of the Mosque Affairs Department, Dr Sulaiman Jumaan al-Qahtani, pointed out that the award is a serious attempt to benefit from these scientific and research capabilities of imams.As such, the ministry announced a set of eligibility requirements and guiding criteria governing the award.These requirements are divided into two categories: those pertaining to the applicant, and those relating to the research paper itself.The ministry underscored that the applicant must be an imam, khatib, or muezzin serving at Awqaf and must commit to addressing all announced themes, while retaining the option to introduce additional themes deemed relevant to the research. Applicants are also required to structure the themes across chapters, sections, and subsections in a manner consistent with their approved research plan.Furthermore, the applicant's name must appear only on the title page, and the submission must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae and a copy of a valid identification document.In addition, Awqaf noted that joint submissions are permitted, provided all contributing authors are imams, khatibs, or muezzins employed by the ministry, clarifying that a previous award recipient is not eligible to participate again until two years have elapsed since winning the award.With regard to the research, Awqaf emphasised that the preparation of a submission specifically for the award is a prerequisite, in addition to the importance of fulfilling the fundamental standards of scholarly research, including introductions, documentation, indexing, and recommendations. Submissions must be presented in Arabic, accompanied by an abstract in both Arabic and English.The ministry also announced that the award may be withheld if the research does not meet the required standard of excellence, and its value may be revoked if it is found that the submission violates any of the stipulated conditions.The award's total value is QR100,000, distributed among the top three recipients, with the first-place winner receiving QR50,000, the second-place winner QR30,000, and the third-place winner QR20,000. 

The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to deliver advanced artificial intelligence projects that accelerate digital transformation across the ministry.The partnership includes the launch of the Awqaf AI Factory, a unified technology environment featuring high-performance computing infrastructure for data processing and model training, and AI platforms built on the ministry's extensive archives.The ministry becomes the first government entity to partner with Google Cloud after the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.Director of Human Resources and Vice-Chairman of the Business and Systems Development Committee, Mohammed bin Hassan al-Malki said co-operation began in January 2024, leveraging Google's technologies to enhance administrative efficiency.He highlighted key initiatives such as the Smart Khateeb Assistant, Media Agent for video generation, Smart Sermon Evaluator, and Real-Time Sermon Translator.The Director of Da'wah and Religious Guidance, Jassim bin Abdullah al-Ali, noted that the Smart Sermon Evaluator delivered rapid, high-impact results, identifying assessment aspects beyond traditional methods.The ministry also migrated Islamweb, one of the world's most visited Islamic platforms, to Google Cloud, strengthening security, scalability, and AI-powered search and fatwa services.The Assistant Director of Mosques, Mohammed bin Abdul Latif al-Mahmoud, said the Smart Khateeb Assistant supports preachers with reliable scholarly content, relevant topic suggestions, and human-in-the-loop editing to enhance sermon effectiveness.Engineering Director at Google Cloud Gulf, Hatem al-Muhandis, praised the partnership for demonstrating how AI can preserve Islamic culture while improving operational efficiency, adding that Awqaf is Google Cloud's largest government partner after MCIT.  

Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre (Aman), member of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, concluded a series of awareness workshops held at Qur'an memorisation centres for women and girls, in co-operation with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs.In this context, Acting Executive Director of Aman Centre, Fadl al-Kaabi emphasised that the main objective of these workshops, in co-operation with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Qur'an memorisation centres, is to enhance women's sense of security and highlight their role in the stability of the family and society. The workshops also aimed to equip participants with new skills and mechanisms for dealing with challenges and problems they may face, and to familiarise them with the centre's role and the key services it provides to protect them.Al-Kaabi noted that the awareness workshops targeted women and girls, focusing on raising awareness and educating the community about social protection issues, thus contributing to building strong and cohesive families. He explained that the number of beneficiaries of these workshops exceeded 900.He pointed out that these efforts come in fulfilment of the vision and mission of Aman Centre to provide social protection, strengthen family cohesion, and reduce violence in all its forms.For her part, Director of the Community Awareness Department at Aman Centre, Bakhita al-Ghayathin explained that the implementation of the "Aman" awareness workshops aimed to highlight several topics related to social protection, family safety, and protection from cyber extortion, in addition to raising awareness about bullying and its psychological effects.In contrast, Director of the Communication and Media Office at Aman Centre, Hanan al-Ali emphasised the importance of expanding co-operation with the largest possible number of partners in the country to serve the targeted groups of women, children, and victims of family breakdown and violence, stressing that awareness represents the first line of defense in achieving safety.Al-Ali added that activating community partnership with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs contributes to raising community awareness and strengthening family cohesion, thus creating a safe and stable environment.
