The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' has announced the completion of main works for the Design and Build Project for the TSE Seasonal Storage Lagoons - Phase 1. The project comes as part of the Authority's efforts to promote environmental sustainability and make optimal use of treated water and renewable water resources, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.The project engineer from the Drainage Networks Projects Department at Ashghal Eng. Waled al-Ghoul stated that the first phase of the project included the construction of five reservoirs (lagoons) with a total storage capacity of 22.5mn cubic metres, in addition to an evaporation pond with a capacity of 8.7mn cubic meters.He added that these reservoirs will be supplied with treated water from the Doha South Sewage Treatment Plant through the rising main (D-Line). Eng. Waled al-Ghoul explained that the project aims to balance the usage of treated water quantities produced throughout the year.Surplus water is stored during the winter season for reuse during the summer months when demand for treated water increases for irrigating green spaces, ornamental plants in public parks and along roads, and for supplying fodder farms.The treated water can also be used in cooling systems and dust control at work sites. Eng. Waled emphasised Ashghal's commitment to implementing construction practices that contribute to enhancing environmental sustainability within the project. More than 8mn cubic metres of recycled excavation materials were reused to construct the storage lagoons, thus reducing resource waste.The project also contributes to providing an attractive natural environment for migratory birds such as pink flamingos, plovers, and other wild birds. The project included the construction of a 6km access road and a 25 km-long internal road network.A total of 8km of water pipelines were also laid, including the necessary hydraulic components for supplying the reservoirs and transporting water between them. At a cost exceeding one billion Qatari Riyals, the Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announced the commencement of the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Umm Slal Mohammed West, as part of its comprehensive plan to develop infrastructure services across the country. In a press release today, Ashghal said the project aims to develop the internal road network in the area and raise safety standards, in addition to developing infrastructure facilities and providing advanced services to meet the needs of residents and respond to future urban growth requirements. Project Engineer at the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal Eng. Noor Ashkanani emphasized the importance of the Umm Slal Mohammed West project, which will serve around 747 citizen land plots. It will implement an internal roads network and provide connectivity to public facilities and main roads, such as Al Mazrouah Road. It will also provide integrated and advanced infrastructure services, including sewage and rainwater drainage networks, to serve the population expansion and commercial projects currently under construction in the area. Eng. Noor Ashkanani explained that the project includes the development and construction of 36.5 km of internal roads, while ensuring traffic safety. More than 1,200 street lighting poles, road signs, and road markings will be installed, in addition to 73 km of pedestrian paths and 12 km of bicycle paths, and 5,000 parking spaces. Landscaping works will also be carried out, covering an area of 385,000 sqm. Infrastructure development works include the construction of a 27-km sewage network, an 83-km stormwater and groundwater drainage network, 38 km of potable water lines, and a 24-km treated wastewater network. The project is located in Umm Salal Mohammed West area, bordered by Al Mazrouah Road to the West and Umm Salal North Road to the Northeast. It covers a total area of approximately 3,180,000 sqm. Before commencement of work, the project was divided into four geographical zones, which will be worked on sequentially, with the aim of accelerating completion and minimizing the impact of construction work on the area.

The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announced the full opening of Al Kharaitiyat interchange, following the completion of comprehensive maintenance and development work, starting Saturday, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.Ashghal explained that the opening includes the exit loop for those coming from Riffa Street towards North, the loop exit for those coming from the North towards Al Ebb street, in addition to the exit for those coming from Riffa street towards Al Ebb Street. The bridge exit to those coming from Al kharaitiyat area towards Doha, after completing the expansion work required to enhance traffic flow in the area.Head of the Doha Highways Department at the Highway Projects Department, Eng. Ali Darwish added that the work included reinforcing the soil with concrete supports before starting maintenance on the main water line with a diameter of 1,600 mm with high pressure along North Road. A concrete protection box for the water line was also constructed to secure it and facilitate future maintenance work, in cooperation with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).He pointed out that during the maintenance period, the 15-meter-deep earthen bridge was removed from its top to the main water line, in addition to dismantling about 150 units of supporting concrete slabs and reinstalling them after completing the necessary maintenance. These works took a period of time extending from May 20, 2025 to date.He stressed that all works were carried out in accordance with the quality and safety standards approved by Ashghal, ensuring the efficiency of the infrastructure and achieving traffic flow in the region.For his part, Head of the Highway Operation and Maintenance Department, of the Road Operations and Maintenance Department at Ashghal, Eng. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary full road closure of Al Corniche Street for traffic coming from Old Doha Port intersection and heading towards Al Diwan interchange on both directions from 10pm on October 9 until 5am on October 12. The closure that will be implemented in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic has been announced to carry out reinstatement and road development works.Ashghal has urged road users to adhere to speed limit, use all available diversion routes and consider rerouting through nearby streets to reach their destinations.

Ashghal has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Medal for Safety by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for the sixth consecutive year.Engineer Sarah Abdullah Mohammed, a Planning Engineer from the Asset Affairs Sector, represented Ashghal in receiving the award for the Mesaimeer Pumping Station and Outfall Project (MPSO). This is in addition to contracts to develop and adopt intelligent transportation systems (ITS).Contracts were recently awarded to a group of the world's largest contractors, and work is expected to commence in October 2025. This is in addition to smart control systems and remote sensing technologies.The Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) will be enhanced, and maintenance priorities will be identified based on risks and integrated with Building Information Modeling (BIM). These new approaches to asset management directly contribute to achieving environmental sustainability and adapting to climate change, which in turn affects drainage networks. Implementation works are scheduled to commence in Q4 of 2025.The project includes renovating the existing buildings, constructing a new patient building, as well as developing the external infrastructure, including improving the internal road network and providing new parking lots.* Renovation of Al Zubara Horse Breeding FarmAs part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, Ashghal will implement the Design and Build project to Repair and Renovate the Horse Breeding Farm in Al Zubarah, one of the largest specialized farms in the world, supporting Qatar's position as a leading global destination for horse racing and equestrian events. The farm is located on Al Shamal Road, approximately 60 km to the North of Doha, and extends over an area of ​​approximately 150 hectares. The project, scheduled to begin in October 2025, includes comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization works for all buildings and facilities.Highway Network Support ProjectAs part of its plans to complete the highway network, and its ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure and enhance connectivity between the various areas in Qatar, Ashghal awarded a project to construct link roads from Al Mazrooah to Al Attoriya and Bu-Thaila areas (zone 71 & 72), with a total length of 22 km.The project aims to connect the surrounding residential areas directly to the highway network, by enhancing the connection between Bu-Thaila and Al Attoriya areas with Al Shamal Road, Al Khor Road, and Dukhan Road via Al Majd Road. This will contribute to supporting economic and agricultural activities in the surrounding areas and provide vital services to the farms, in addition to preparing the area for future urban development in line with the state's vision and the national development plan.Al Karaana Road Development ProjectThe project aims to provide an advanced road network in the Al Karaana area and implement an integrated infrastructure within the project scope. Works include the construction of a 6.5 km road network to provide a direct connection to Salwa Road and facilitate access to the establishments and facilities in the area. A 4.7 km internal road network will also be constructed to regulate traffic in the camel racetrack. Traffic safety features, street lighting, parking lots, and landscaping will also be provided. The project also includes treated wastewater and irrigation networks totaling 17.5 km.

As the new 2025/2026 academic year approaches, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of all school zone safety measures around 669 schools across Qatar and development of 53 existing schools, including upgrading fire protection systems. Such plans, Ashghal said in a statement, aim at protecting students and ensuring the safety of road users during school drop-off and pick-up times, along with ensuring the highest standards of safety and security towards enhancing the efficiency of educational facilities.This is done in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Ashghal also plans to improve 140 schools within a comprehensive plan that includes developing fire protection systems, enhancing educational, recreational, and sports facilities to help provide a safe educational environment that supports the learning process. The plan also covers the reconstruction of seven existing schools to meet the latest global standards and specifications in design and equipment. Project Engineer Dana Saeed Al-Saiari from the Building Projects Department explained that the Ashghal, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has carried out a wide range of development and improvement works in 53 existing schools. These included upgrading fire protection systems in line with the highest international standards, as well as introducing advanced technical and operational enhancements that improve the efficiency of the buildings and the overall quality of the learning environment. Abdullah Al Maraghi, Road Safety Engineer, said that the school zone safety strategies cover the road networks surrounding 673 schools in various areas, as part of the School Zone Safety Programme, since the start of the programme in 2013 until now, which is being implemented in coordination with all relevant authorities. In this context, Ashghal has also undertaken comprehensive preparations over the past months to enhance road infrastructure and implement safety measures to facilitate traffic flow. These technical and essential improvements represent an important step towards providing a safe and sustainable school environment for all community members in the new academic year. The improvements include the installation or upgrading of clear and prominent traffic signs, as well as the inspection, maintenance and installation of speed bumps and pedestrian crossings to alert drivers to slow down at school entrances and exits. These enhanced measures aim to improve pedestrian visibility in areas surrounding schools, while enforcing the minimum speed limit of 30 km/h. In addition, further road safety measures have been adopted to regulate traffic flow during peak times at school entrances during drop-off and pick-up hours. Moreover, road markings, such as pedestrian crossings and stop lines, are being repainted to ensure maximum clarity for road users.
