Vehicles move slowly along a water logged street in Mumbai yesterday
Several areas of Mumbai and Thane were waterlogged as heavy rains lashed the city for the third day yesterday.
According to a weather department official, Colaba in south Mumbai recorded 95.6mm of rainfall while Santacruz in the western suburbs recorded 166.6mm in the last 12 hours until yesterday evening. The eastern suburbs received 45.8mm rain in the 12 hours.
Many areas including Parel, Hindmata, Milan Subway, Worli, Dadar, Santacruz, Andheri, Malad, Kandivli, Ghatkopar and Vikhroli faced heavy water logging, causing inconvenience to people.
Many arterial roads too were blocked, causing traffic snarls. Road traffic had to be diverted in low-lying areas. Local train services too were running late by 10 minutes, officials said.
Most flights to and from Mumbai also saw a delay of 15-30 minutes owing to poor visibility.
According to the weather department officials, intermittent rains were expected in various parts of the city. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also being forecast in some parts of the city today.
