The members of Qatar Chamber’s board of directors have expressed support for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, its chairman, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani said in a statement Tuesday.
In a meeting presided over by Sheikh Khalifa, the board reviewed the preparations and contributions of the private sector for the success of the tournament, which is slated from November 20 to December 18.
The board ensured its support for the World Cup “in all possible ways,” as well as to stimulate the private sector to continue its supporting role in hosting this global event. They also noted that the World Cup represents a milestone “in the march of Qatar’s renaissance,” and a major turning point for the Qatari economy, which will greatly benefit from the global championship.
The chamber also assured that all activities of the Qatari private sector strongly support the State to make the event “a great success.” Under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar is able to organise “the best edition of the tournament in the history of world football.”
The board noted that the private sector played a pivotal role since the 2010 announcement of Qatar’s bid to host the World Cup, adding that in recent years the private sector was “a genuine partner” of the public sector in preparing for the event, such as the “strong participation” of Qatari companies in World Cup-related projects and infrastructure, as well as other various services related to the event.
They underscored that the private sector will continue to play its role during the World Cup by providing all supporting services for the tournament in all sectors, such as hospitality, trade, and healthcare, among others.
The board stressed that the World Cup offers a “brilliant opportunity” for the private sector to promote the Qatari economy and its attractive investment climate and to build economic and commercial relations overseas. The board added that the event adds value to the Qatari economy and represents a new start for Qatar to become a global hub for tourism, trade, and investment.
