Birla Public School (BPS) celebrated its 19th Founders’ Day over two days recently on the theme ‘Champions of Change.’
A galaxy of dignitaries and thousands of spectators attended. Chairman Gope Shahani, director C V Rappai, management representative Chindhu Rappai and life members were present on day one. Academic director-principal Harish Sanduja presented the annual report on the achievements of 2021-22.
The outstanding record holders, CBSE Board examination Grade X toppers and the staff members with 10 years' service were honoured by the management. Shahani appreciated the teachers and the students for their dedication and lauded the immense efforts in presenting a marvellous show.



While addressing the gathering, Rappai said: “Our school achieved the first position in Qatar in all streams of Science, Commerce and Humanities of Grade XII and again, for Grade X."
The cultural carnival, performed by the Primary Section students began with a fusion dance-Jam-In-Jewels, Svarasa, Rivals of Tomorrow, Back to School, Madhuram, One World One Dream and culminated with Antarjwala.
Primary head boy Mukund Anuj Kumar and head girl Aditi Manoj proposed a vote of thanks.



The second day had Indian embassy first secretary (culture, education, labour) Sachin Dinkar Shankpal as the chief guest. School chairman Shahani, directors Dr Mohan Thomas and Rappai, management representatives Chindu Antony Rappai and Malvika Khimji, life members, and school officials were present.
Addressing the gathering, Shankpal told students that education is the foundation of life and reminded parents that education is beyond school. "Parents are equally or rather more responsible and should be highly observant. There are too many distractions in the world. Parents should find time to spend with their children."
Head boy Vaibhav Krishna and head girl Ishita Somayaji welcomed the gathering. Academic director-principal Sandhuja presented the annual report highlighting the academic and non-academic achievements. Students who accomplished extraordinary humane service, toppers of Grade XII Board Examinations AY 2021-22 and teaching and non-teaching staff who have completed 15 years of service were honoured. “Birlites’ Expression”, the biennial school magazine, was released by the chief guest.



Hussain Qassim Askar, First Warrant Officer of Juvenile Police Department under the Ministry of Interior was briefly present at the function and complimented the school on its 19th Founder’s Day celebrations.
Director Dr Thomas reminisced about the inception years and said: “We are at a crossroad. Education and children have changed. Children should be moulded to be responsible social beings. The task of education is a partnership between school, teachers and parents. The trendy style of youth alarms me. Let’s get into action and make efforts to observe, reach out and help.” He also quoted APJ Abdul Kalam and said “Start where you are with what you have.”
A dance performance, 'Tharuni' emphasised the theme of women empowerment. The audience cheered to Hayya Hayya, when the students of the Middle Section rocked the stage, giving a glimpse of 32 countries participating in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
A mime on afforestation, 'Aranyakarana,' shedding light on the drastic climatic change was presented by another group of Middle School students. The students of the Secondary section presented 'Uhibbu Baladi – I Love My Country' merging the Indian and Qatari forms of music, elevating the positive values of love, loyalty and honesty towards one’s nation.
The school’s Theatre Club refreshed the memory of the world’s greatest dramatist, William Shakespeare through the play 'Macbeth' which featured young actors of Secondary and Senior Secondary sections. The finale of the cultural programmes was ‘Auguri’, a parade by the graduating batch of Class XII. Vice-head boy Rohan Doddamane and vice-head girl Rushali Nair proposed a vote of thanks.
