Fake accommodation bookings done by overseas fans for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will lead to a change in their Hayya Card status, a Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) official has said.
Taking part in the 'Al Majlis' show on Al Kass Channel, Thani al-Zarraa, director of the SC Transportation Operations Department, said: “The Hayya Card status is constantly checked. One may receive approval, but this is regularly checked and may turn from active to inactive because of any fake accommodation reservation done by the holder. It is possible to check the Hayya Card at any time and change the status from approved to rejected."
The Hayya portal accepts accommodation bookings made on websites other than the Qatar Accommodation Agency (QAA) for fans coming from abroad.
Meanwhile, the official said Qatari buses will transport fans from within Saudi Arabia to the Abu Samra border crossing as part of a special service. The bus station will be located 9km from the border.
The plan, according to al-Zarraa, will be implemented in co-ordination with the Saudi auhorities. Fans will be taken from the bus station to the crossing point to complete the procedures, and then transported to the 'Friends and Family' area in Al Qalayel or Al Messila.
Regarding entry exceptions for those coming through the Abu Samra border crossing, Colonel Dr Jabr Hammoud al-Nuaimi, official spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Tournament Security, said the preparations are in full swing and all facilities will be provided by the officials.
“Buses have been provided from the parking lots to the arrival halls and vice-versa. Parking lots at Abu Samra are available for free for one-day fans only, and whoever exceeds one day will be subject to a violation. Any delay up to 48 hours is to be penalised with a fee of QR1,000, while those exceeding 48 hours will be charged with a fee of QR1,000 while they will also face legal measures for the violation,” he added.
