HE the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Organising Committee for Qatar National Day (QND) Celebrations, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, has stressed the need for the values of 2022 slogan to be ever-present and manifested, especially since people from the world over, each with their culture, will come to Qatar on the occasion of this year's FIFA World Cup.
He noted that there is a need to consolidate local culture in everyday life and in future generations, adding that if it were not for the unity of the Qatari people, the country would not have become what it is today, a remarkable nation that can host the World Cup.
On Saturday, HE Sheikh Abdulrahman unveiled the slogan of the 2022 Qatar National Day (QND), 'Our Unity Source of Our Strength', during a ceremony held at the Umm Salal Mohamed heritage reserve, in the presence of a large audience of public figures, intellectuals and writers.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, HE the Minister explained that the 2022 slogan was excerpted from a speech by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. He stressed the fact that the Qatari people have shown wisdom and chivalry since the founding of the State.
The 2022 National Day is different as it coincides with Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup, making everyone - young and old alike - a Qatari ambassador by virtue of their values, culture, chivalry and wisdom, he added.
HE the Minister stressed that nations are not formed by large territories nor huge populations, but rather by the determination of the people, with which Qataris have been known since the founding of this country. He stressed that determination and unity constitute the source of the Qatari people's strength, through which they were able to overcome not only economic and political hardships but also military ones.
He added that the hearts of the Qatari people and the gates of Darb Al Saai will be open to all, from November 25, until Qatar National Day on December 18, which coincides with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final, a date that shall be a civilisational legacy for Qatar, its people and their culture.
The unveiling ceremony features a short film about the cohesion between the various groups of Qatari society, reflecting the noble values of loyalty and solidarity.
The new logo will adorn the celebration of the National Day at Darb Al Saai, which has moved to its new and permanent headquarters at Umm Salal Mohamed.
In a speech at the slogan unveiling ceremony, Dr Ghanem bin Mubarak al-Ali, general superviser of the Qatar National Day celebrations, said the 2022 National Day celebrations come in an exceptional context that bears the meaning of the challenge. The 2022 QND celebrations coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which raises the ceiling of the challenges for the Qatari society to a new level since the founding of the State.
Al-Ali noted that the National Day slogan came as an expression of the impact of this intellectual and social bond in responding to challenges and demonstrating unity.
He informed that the 2022 Qatar National Day celebrations include 4,500 cultural and heritage activities over 24 days, which would enhance loyalty, solidarity, unity and pride in the national identity.
Al-Ali explained that the visitors of Qatar would learn during the World Cup about the bright aspects of its history and culture and the Qataris' belief in civilised interaction with other cultures, and their pride in Arab and Islamic values.
He pointed to the inauguration of the 150,000sq m new and permanent headquarters of Darb Al Saai at Umm Salal Mohamed, stressing that Darb Al Saai will provide Qatar's visitors with the opportunity to take a cultural, heritage and artistic tour that will reflect the Qatari heritage and national values.
Al -Ali pointed out that the Qatar National Day activities enhance the national memory of the people of Qatari society and allow the new generation to build their national character, as the National Day dedicates several activities for youth so that the occasion is a space of communication between all generations.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency, al-Ali said the QND activities will include cultural and heritage events in about 191 main events, poetry and musical evenings, and literary, intellectual and artistic seminars, as well as exhibitions, competitions, two museums, some crafts, popular games and workshops.
