Qatar participated in a roundtable discussion on regionalisation and global health — implications of global jobs and co-operation, on the side events of the 2022 World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany.
HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari represented Qatar at the meeting, in which representatives from various regions including the African Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the European Union participated.
In her speech during the meeting, HE Dr al-Kuwari stressed that Qatar, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, attaches great significance to global health security, noting that the State has provided support to the World Health Organisation, UN programmes and countries during the Covid-19 pandemic and other health emergencies to ensure continued access to medicines and vaccines, as well as access to health facilities.
"Because diseases do not stop at borders, stopping their spread requires collaborative global efforts," she said.
She added: "Countries around the world also face similar health challenges such as population ageing, increasing chronic diseases, antibiotic resistance, and the threat of deadly epidemics."
She pointed out that there is an urgent need to develop strategies, medicines and vaccines in order to combat poverty-related and neglected diseases, and to stop preventable deaths at early ages. During the roundtable, experiences were exchanged on how regional co-operation and dynamics have developed in recent years and during the Covid-19 pandemic, and ways to ensure that the international health system is the most harmonious, modern and effective, was discussed.
