Spaniard Adrian Otaegui romped to a six-shot victory at the Andalucia Masters on Sunday with a tournament-record score to win his first title on home soil.
The world number 158, who held a six-stroke advantage overnight, carded a three-under-par 68 to finish 19-under for the tournament.
Otaegui is the first Spanish champion of the event at Valderrama since Sergio Garcia claimed his third victory in 2018. “Very, very proud. I feel so happy to have my first win in Spain,” said the 29-year-old after his fourth European Tour triumph.
“In front of those crowds, on my favourite golf course in Spain. It’s just unbelievable.
“I just tried to play my game, tried to play as if I teed off level. Just tried to beat the others today and stay focused.”
Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren was a distant second after also carding a 68, while in-form Australian Min Woo Lee finished third for the second straight tournament after falling just short at the Spanish Open last week.
Rising Danish star Rasmus Hojgaard settled for fifth, 10 shots behind Otaegui and two strokes adrift of Angel Hidalgo.
