The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Permanent Committee on United Nations Affairs, which was held within the work of the 145th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, QNA reported.
The Council was represented in the meeting by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sualiti, member of the Committee.
During the meeting, the topic of the United Nation's response to the increase in hunger and famine was discussed, as the participants exchanged views on ways to strengthen the response and to deal with the increase in hunger in different parts of the world.
The issue of the United Nations' field presence in support of national development was also discussed, and in this context, the meeting reviewed the case of Rwanda.

HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council and chair of the Shura Council delegation to the 145th IPU Assembly currently convened in Kigali, Rwanda, Dr Hamda bint Hassan al- Sulaiti also met yesterday with several parliamentarians participating in the meetings of the IPU Assembly.
She met separately with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Gennaro Migliore and Vice-President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and of the Austrian delegation Reinhold Lopatka.
During the two meetings, they discussed the existing co-operation between the Shura Council, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and ways to enhance them.
HE Al-Sulaiti also discussed the Shura Council membership in the office of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and means to enhance and co-ordinate the
co-operation between the two sides with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. She also met with HE Inter-Parliamentary Union Senior Adviser Mokhtar Omar.
