The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has affirmed that the advancement of scientific research is a strategic goal, in its quest to enhance the pillar of human development and to achieve the goals and objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The ministry noted Qatar's prominent and pioneering role in discovering and developing the potential of its students through their participation in various research activities and competitions inside and outside the country.
This came in a speech delivered on Thursday by the Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed al-Ruwaili, at the conclusion of the activities of the National Science Research and Innovation Week 2022, which was organised in co-operation with Qatar National Research Fund of Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council.
During the closing ceremony, the students, schools and teachers who won the scientific research competitions in various categories and branches were honoured.
About 115 winners, including the students were presented by Vice President General, Rashid al-Sulaiti, the special prizes offered by Qatar Shell.
The names of the winning research students who will represent Qatar in international research competitions have also been announced.
In her speech, al-Ruwaili pointed out the basic competencies included in the Qatar national curricula that meet the skills of inquiry and research, the method of problem-solving and critical creative thinking, as well as effective communication skills, which are among the basics of scientific research.
She added that the presented research projects demonstrate the strength of the educational competencies acquired by Qatar's students at the hands of their teachers, and are the fruit of the project-based educational strategies adopted by the ministry, and which contribute to building the country's research capabilities.
She pointed out that 377 male and female teachers participated in providing procedural research, calling on male and female students and teachers to employ their research and scientific knowledge, and the results of their research in the service of the state, and to contribute to achieving sustainable development.
She expressed her thanks and appreciation to all responsible for the success of the National Science Research and Innovation Week, including officials, organisers, teachers, trainers, arbitrators, and supporters of ministries and various government agencies.
She also thanked Qatar Shell for its support of students and teachers in their research. She appreciated the dedication and perseverance of the promising students and teachers, who made efforts to reach advanced positions in their research.
In his remark, the Acting Executive Director of the Qatar National Research Fund Dr Hisham Mohieldin Saber said that the National Science Research Competition, which is based on international criteria, remained a national platform and received efficient support from the fund to further encourage the students of public and private schools to develop their abilities and work with their teachers and supervisors on conducting innovative researches and projects that qualify them to compete and annually participate in Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in USA, which this year will be held from May 13 to 19.
Speaking to QNA, Senior Manager, Education and Outreach at Qatar Foundation Dr Abdullah al-Kamali urged male and female students who had won in the National Science Research Competition to continue their research excellence and maintain the good results and work to upgrade them further to qualify for representing Qatar in international competitions.
