Former advisor to the Turkish president Dr Yasin Aktay has said that Qatar is an example to be followed in settling disputes between different parties, resolving crises through dialogue and diplomatic means, and serving humanitarian work around the world. In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) Aktay said that the role of Qatar in the field of mediation and conflict resolution in the world is internationally recognised, and it is appreciated, and has earned it a prestigious reputation and experience. Its efforts were manifested perfectly in bringing parties together in Afghanistan and reaching an agreement that contribute to efforts to establish peace and achieve stability there, he said.
The former advisor to the Turkish president added that mediation has a social role and gives the mediator great strength and confidence to persuade the conflicting parties to sit at the dialogue table and reach a peace agreement, noting that Turkey and Qatar share their keenness to serve humanitarian work around the world and resolve crises through diplomatic means. With regard to the meetings of the 8th session of the Supreme Strategic Committee between Qatar and Turkey, he considered that these meetings reflect the great development in relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, pointing out that the convening of this session comes at a time when the world is going through exceptional circumstances, especially with regard to the food crisis and the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic, which imposes on everyone the need to unite to face these challenges.
He noted the strategic vision and broad horizon of Qatar, which is evident through the use of its wealth to diversify its investment portfolio along with serving the interests of the Arab, Islamic and human nations as a whole, as well as its distinguished role in serving the issues of the region and the Islamic world at the economic level and in sectors of education, culture, humanitarian support and smart investments, pointing out that Qatar is also partnering with Turkey in this regard, as Ankara focuses on some smart and strategic investments, including electronic industries, defence, and humanitarian support, which opens the door to enhance co-operation between the two countries in many sectors.
Aktay affirmed that Turkey and Qatar enjoy great co-operation, rapprochement, and strategic relations that enable the two sides to build on them and advance them to broader horizons, noting that the two countries have important mutual investments, and are linked by co-operation, co-ordination, and solidarity on many regional and international issues, especially about the development of the Islamic world and the establishment of peace in the world, in addition to supporting and enhancing regional and international security and stability.
In response to a question about the agreements signed by the two countries during the previous sessions of the Joint Higher Strategic Committee, he said that the implementation of the agreements depends on the nature of sectors, laws, and speed of implementation, but what is certain is that the two sides have a desire to speed up the implementation of the projects.
About the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the former advisor said in his interview with QNA, that Turkey has played a distinct role in this crisis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has a good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the rest of the parties concerned with this crisis, adding that he is a reliable mediator, calling for moderation by both parties, and has been able to prevent the spread of the war in Ukraine to wider areas and reach an agreement to transfer trucks loaded with food and wheat from Ukraine to the world, especially to poor countries.
Regarding hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, he said, they are proud of Qatar's hosting of this major global event, which is being held for the first time in the Middle East and the Islamic world, and Qatar has benefited from hosting this tournament in advancing the development process, becoming one of the distinguished countries in the world not only in economic terms, but in terms of its contribution to international politics thanks to the experience it has gained.
