'Walk the Talk Doha' will take place on November 19 at Al Bidda Park, on two routes of 3km and 5km, respectively, an official from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said.
The walk will begin and end at Al Bidda Park, taking the participants to key Doha landmarks, including the Corniche area and the FIFA World Cup countdown clock. More details will be announced soon.
A delegation from MoPH recently took part in the World Health Organisation’s Walk the Talk: Health For All Challenge in Cairo. The Walk the Talk Doha event was announced there by Ali Abdulla al-Khater, chair of the Supreme Healthcare Communications Committee, MoPH.
Taking place before the start of the 69th session of WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Cairo event is part of the WHO’s Walk the Talk initiative to promote health, and particularly physical activity, as part of a healthy and sustainable future.
Activities on the day included a walk around the park followed by a symbolic kick-off football game, and a moderated physical exercise session. Welcome speeches highlighting the key aims of the Walk the Talk event were also delivered by WHO director-general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus; WHO regional director, Dr Ahmed al-Mandhari; UN resident co-ordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova; and assistant minister for health affairs at MoPH, Dr Salih al-Marri.
During his remarks, Dr al-Marri expressed his delight at representing HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari in the Cairo Walk the Talk event.
“Along with HE Dr al-Kuwari, I had the honour of taking part in the Geneva Walk the Talk event in May and I truly appreciate the value that these events have in encouraging people to be physically active.
“The Ministry of Public Health is proud to be working with the WHO through our Sport for Health partnership, which also includes FIFA and Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. Working together, we aim to ensure the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first to be held in the Middle East, is the healthiest in the history. Sport and health are intrinsically linked, and this partnership is using the FIFA World Cup as a catalyst to raise awareness of health to a global audience,” Dr al-Marri added.
