In celebration of 'World Car-Free Day', and in line with Vodafone Qatar's commitment to a more sustainable future, the company recently organised a ‘No Car Day’ for all its employees, as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of various events and projects.
Employees at Vodafone were encouraged to use more sustainable alternatives, such as carpooling, electric scooters, metro, buses, bicycles or walking. In addition, Qatar Rail supported Vodafone’s initiative by providing its employees with 400 free tickets to use throughout the day on its services, via the Doha Metro.
Vodafone employees supported the initiative by using alternative commuting options to work, and expressed their eagerness to continue using more sustainable transportation, also highlighting that it was a new enjoyable experience, as well as time efficient.
Ali Atiq al-Abdullah, head of Media Relations and CSR at Vodafone Qatar, commented, “We would like to thank Qatar Rail for their support and cooperation during our No Car Day. Through this initiative Vodafone aims to raise awareness on the importance of sustainability, by making our commutes to work 'greener' and reducing our personal carbon footprint. It is important to continue with this initiative and try alternative sustainable options to get to places, to help in increasing sustainability in our everyday lives bringing widespread benefits for all; including enhancing our standard of living, health as a community and positively impacting our environment.”
Sustainability falls under one of Vodafone Qatar’s key pillars, and ties into the national action plan towards Qatar’s environmental and sustainable development goals, offering a new way of life that introduces easier, more efficient and therefore greener everyday practices into the homes and offices of the local community.
