The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has warned against consuming fresh and frozen Indian shrimp, as it has been found that some imported quantities are microbially contaminated, according to the results of analysis in the food laboratories of the Ministry.

The MoPH, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, is working to ensure that all quantities of Indian shrimp offered are withdrawn from the market, the Ministry said in a press statement Friday.

The Ministry also called upon consumers not to consume it and return it to the outlets from which it was purchased, in the event the shrimp is purchased during the last three days.

If it has been consumed and the symptoms of gastro-intestinal infection are felt, the consumer should visit the nearest health centre.
