Qatar and Tanzania have huge potentials to strengthen co-operation in areas such as trade exchange, investment promotion, tourism, gas exploration, port development, agriculture and energy, according to Tanzanian President Samia Soluho Hassan.
"Today, we confirm our deep goals to build strategic partnerships that will positively contribute to the economies of the two countries," the president told the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) in a meeting on Thursday in Doha.
The meeting with the QBA was convened to discuss ways of possible investment opportunities between the two countries in various economic fields.
Highlighting that Qatar and Tanzania have always enjoyed historical bilateral relations, she said these friendly relations became stronger after the opening of the embassies of the two countries and the exchange of high-level visits between the leaders of Qatar and Tanzania.
HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, QBA chairman spoke on the wealth in resources that are still being exploited in Tanzania, in addition to the political stability that encourages investments.
"There are real investment opportunities in the fields of tourism, agriculture and energy support projects," he said, adding the association will visit Tanzania as part of a high-level delegation after the World Cup.
Sheikh Faisal stressed that there is a common interest to develop bilateral collaboration, in light of the enormous potentials of both countries, pointing out that the Qatari businessmen are keen to learn about the opportunities available in Tanzania and to benefit from its natural resources, agricultural lands and its strategic location.
Relations between Qatar and Tanzania are growing, and the volume of trade exchange reached QR300mn last year compared to QR169mn in 2020, a growth of 70% on annualised basis.
Apart from Sheikh Faisal, QBA board members Sherida al-Kaabi and Saud al-Mana, and QBA members Ashraf Abu Issa, Youssef al-Mahmoud, Ihsan al-Khaymi and Rashid al-Mansouri, chief executive officer of Aamal Holding Group, and Sarah Abdullah, QBA deputy general manager attended the meeting.
The Tanzanian side comprised Dr Achato Kijagi, Minister of Industry, Investment and Trade; Dr Mohadi Juma'a Maalem, ambassador of Tanzania to Doha, and a number of chief executive officers of energy, tourism and investment companies.
