International Telecommunication Union (ITU) secretary-general Houlin Zhao has expressed his confidence that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be a great success thanks to the preparations that have been made to host it, including the optimal use of ICT (information and communications technology).
He said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU PP) in Bucharest that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will not only be a sporting event, but also a global occasion to promote the importance of digital transformation and enhance the use of information technology.
Qatar has adopted advanced technologies and information technology as part of its preparations to host the World Cup, Zhao said.
He noted that ICT will support sports in general and enhance the skills of athletes, in making competitions more accurate and efficient through the use of information technologies and advanced communication devices.
