His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani affirmed that the Qatari-Czech relations are distinguished and witnessed continuous growth in various fields, such as health, energy, and investment, expressing the two countries' quest for further co-operation, and looking forward to the agreements signed Wednesday being another motivation to achieve the aspirations of the two countries in this regard.
In a joint press statement with Czech President Milos Zeman at the presidential palace in Prague Wednesday afternoon, the Amir said that he had discussed with the president the development of economic relations, trade exchange, and joint investments, looking forward to working with him to develop them.
Also, the Amir talked about the agreements that were signed with the Czech side, and discussed the development of relations, pointing out that the Qatar-Czech joint committee will follow up on that.
Concerning the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Amir said that they were established 32 years ago.
In this regard, His Highness said that Qatar witnessed last month the opening of the Czech embassy in Doha, and announced Qatar's intention to open resident embassy in the capital, Prague, in the coming months which will move the bilateral relations to a new stage of co-operation and partnership.
The Amir said that he discussed with President Zeman Wednesday matters concerning foreign policy, regional matters, and international situations, and in this aspect, he affirmed the clear position of Qatar, which always calls for dialogue and diplomacy as the only means to resolve all disputes, by sitting at the negotiating table.
His Highness pointed out that Qatar is on the verge of an important event next month, which is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He expressed his welcome to all fans from all over the world.
On this occasion, His Highness expressed his welcome to the Czech president and Czech football fans in Qatar.
The Amir concluded his statement by expressing thanks to President Zeman for the warm welcome, expressing his happiness to be in the Czech Republic, on his first official visit to this beautiful country.
For his part, the Czech president expressed his great happiness for His Highness's visit and accepted the invitation, referring to the friendly meeting that took place Wednesday, in addition to discussions on political and economic issues, which included the signing of an agreement on economic co-operation.
He noted that the two countries will also sign an agreement to protect bilateral investments after the European Commission ratified the agreement.
Also, he pointed to the previously signed agreement between the two countries on avoiding double taxation.
He expressed his high appreciation for the friendship during the talks with His Highness, considering that he and the Amir laid a basis for long-term co-operation between the two countries.
The president concluded his statement by stressing that the discussions also dealt with the developments of the Ukrainian crisis, renewing his thanks to the Amir for accepting the invitation to visit the Czech Republic.
