The Vietnamese embassy in Doha marked the 77th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day at a reception yesterday evening, in the presence of Qatari dignitaries and heads of diplomatic missions in the country.
HE Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali al-Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change; and Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, director of the Department of Protocol at the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, attended the event along with other VIP guests.
The ceremony started with the national anthems of both Qatar and Vietnam.
Vietnamese ambassador to Doha Tran Duc Hung noted that over the past 77 years, Vietnam has made various achievements in all fields. "It has established diplomatic relations with 190 countries around the world, of which are 30 strategic partnerships, along with comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries," he said. "Vietnam is a member of 15 free trade agreements and also an active member of more than 70 international organisations and multilateral forums, including the United Nations, Apec, Asem, Asean and others."
In particular, he stressed that "Vietnam and Qatar have enjoyed excellent relations based on common faith and mutual interests since our relations were officially established in 1993."
He added, "Under the insightful guidance of the leaders of both countries, Vietnam-Qatar relations have been nurtured and developed from time to time. The contacts and exchange visits from various levels of the leadership have cemented bilateral relations in the political, economic and socio-cultural fields. In the third quarter of 2022, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani visited Vietnam while the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Pham Quang Hieu, attended the bilateral political dialogue in Qatar."
"Regarding economic co-operation, Qatar Airways is operating daily direct return flights from Doha to the three biggest cities of Vietnam. This plays an important role in bringing the two countries closer and contributing actively to the development of bilateral relations. QNB launched its first representative office in Vietnam in 2015 to create more opportunities for bilateral trading co-operation in Vietnam. PTSC Mechanical & Construction Company, a subsidiary branch of PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation, is co-operating effectively in the field of oil and gas with QatarEnergy," he added.
