Qatar's ambassador in Berlin HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani has underlined that the visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Qatar Sunday reflects the distinguished relations between the two countries, noting that the visit will be the first for the chancellor since he took office in December 2021.
The ambassador recalled His Highness the Amir's visit to Berlin in May 2022 when the two countries signed three agreements in defence, energy and investment, noting that Qatar's sovereign and private investments are one of the largest in Germany.
He added that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries exceeded $3bn last year, and that nearly 300 German companies are contributing to the development of the Qatari economy in various fields.
The ambassador underlined that the current global situation which is heavily hit by crises and conflicts, including high inflation rates, the state of food security and energy shortages, requires activating mechanisms of co-operation and continuous consultation between the leaderships of the two countries.
