Qatar participated in an unofficial meeting of foreign ministers of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi, represented Qatar at the meeting.
In his speech during the meeting, HE al-Muraikhi said that Qatar, since its accession to the membership of the CICA Conference during the fourth summit in Shanghai in China in 2014, has actively and regularly participated in all conference activities, and seeks to strengthen relations of co-operation with member states.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs pointed out that the CICA Conference, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary, has proven during this period its importance as a platform for dialogue on political, security and developmental issues.
He expressed the belief that the CICA Conference is going through a major qualitative shift today in its organisational structure to meet the urgent needs of the Asian continent. HE al-Muraikhi expressed Qatar’s support for Kazakhstan in its initiative to transform the CICA Conference into an independent international organisation for security, co-operation, and development affairs in Asia.
He said that Kazakhstan is undertaking this historic task and wished it success in implementing its important political initiative for the Asian continent.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs confirmed that Qatar will participate with a high-level delegation in the 6th CICA Summit, which will be held Oct. 12-13 in Kazakhstan. He wished the Government of Kazakhstan success in hosting the sixth edition of the CICA Summit.
