An introductory meeting was held Wednesday by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by Doha Municipality and in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) Public Relations Department, on the prohibition of parking abandoned vehicles on roads, sidewalks and public squares and other municipal laws and regulations.
Representatives of various expatriate communities in Qatar took part in the meeting. In his opening speech, Doha Municipality director Mansour Ajran al-Buainain explained that a campaign is being launched to raise awareness on the urgent need to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the city, and introduce the provisions of Law No 18 of 2017 on public hygiene.

Salem al-Shafi, director of the Municipal Control Department at Doha Municipality, highlighted the most important causes of food poisoning and how to avoid them in addition to providing the necessary guidance to workers to raise the level of safety at all stages of the food chain.
The official stressed the need to avoid the grouping of workers' housing among family residential neighbourhoods. It is not allowed for more than five single workers to occupy a single unit within family residential areas.
Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, head of the Public Control Department in Doha Municipality, gave a presentation on topics including the prohibition of parking trucks, vehicles and equipment among residential neighbourhoods and in places other than those designated.
He also called for the need to avoid the indiscriminate dumping of waste and the cluttering on the roofs of buildings, facades, and balconies in residential neighbourhoods such as hanging clothes to dry. He also advised those who would travel to and park their cars in a proper parking lots outside their houses and ask their friends to keep the vehicles clean while they are away to avoid any violations.
Al-Shahwani explained that a car is deemed abandoned based on the evaluation of the inspector, who often assesses the deteriorating state of the vehicle, condition of the tyres and the accumulated dust, among other factors.
On the sidelines of the induction meeting, a session was held between the officials of the Ministry of Municipality, the heads of the communities, and the MoI representatives to discuss the awareness plans.
