Commenting on the award, Qatargas chief executive officer Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani said, “I would like to thank our partner, Shell, for this prestigious recognition which underscores our commitment to operate all our world-class assets according to premier standards. Our distinctive performance during the past two years and the subsequent exceptional results were the result of our people’s unwavering commitment to the values the Company stands for.
“Qatargas demonstrated sustained delivery to remain on plan despite all the challenges associated with the global pandemic thanks to our teamwork, resilient processes and systems and our collaboration with all stakeholders including our valued shareholders. This is truly phenomenal.”
Hugues Bourgogne, executive vice president, Shell’s international safety, environment and asset management business, commented, “QG4’s unwavering focus on excellence, both in terms of safety and operational performance, is commendable. The Qatargas team is showing themselves to truly be leaders in LNG operations and are a shining example for oil and gas facilities around the world. It’s an honour to present this award to Qatargas and I look forward to further strengthening our partnership with the North Field East expansion project.”
Ahmad Helal al-Mohannadi, Qatargas chief Onshore and Operations Support Officer said, “Through the pandemic we have managed to operate our assets, deliver outstanding shutdown performance, and continually build on our success towards a better and safer Qatargas.
The safety of our people and the integrity of our assets shaped every decision and every action we took at all levels. This recognition from our shareholders is a testament to the achievements delivered by our people and the focused effort demonstrated by our Covid-19 taskforce to ensure the continuity of our business. Qatargas people are our greatest asset, and they always deliver.”
Richard Tallant, managing director and chairman of Qatar Shell Companies said, “QG4’s sustained outstanding performance comes down to the dedication of the people. The culture focuses on development of local talent and utilising the best international expertise, all underpinned by a strong strategy. Working in partnership, we have been able to show the world that Qatar really is the leader in LNG production.”
The award was received on behalf of Qatargas by Ahmad Hassan al-Sulaiti, QG3&4 asset manager, from Tallant in the presence of Sheikh Khalid, Bourgogne and al-Mohannadi among other executives.
The attention to personal and process safety as well as optimising production performance has resulted in world class HSE (health, safety and environment) performance and near perfect reliability. Two major contributing factors to achieving these results lie in the staff’s commitment and the strong leadership of Qatargas.
QG4 is a fully integrated LNG project. It comprises offshore production platforms and pipelines; onshore gas processing, treatment and liquefaction facilities; and a fleet of LNG carriers. Qatar Shell was recently selected by QatarEnergy as a partner in the North Field East expansion project in Qatar, the single largest project in the history of the LNG industry.
