The ministerial decision requiring all institutions and authorities concerned to segregate solid waste at source will be implemented from October 1, HE the Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie reiterated on Friday.
This was mentioned in his speech issued by the Ministry of Municipality in connection with the World Hygiene Day, which is observed today (September 17). Public hygiene is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development, it was pointed out.
The Ministry of Municipality had recently announced that from October, municipalities in Qatar will take strict action against entities that fail to segregate solid waste in the proper manner, as envisaged in the Ministerial Decision No 170 for 2021. All organisations, companies and entities concerned should provide containers for sorting waste, it has been stipulated.
HE Dr al-Subaie referred to the integrated national programme for sorting waste at source, launched within the framework of achieving the objectives of the ministry's sustainable strategic plan.
"Qatar is making continuous efforts in the field of recycling and treating waste and converting it into energy through an integrated national waste management programme, and the establishment of a dedicated area for 50 recycling factories in Al Afja area," he said while recalling that at the beginning of this year, the ministry launched the zero waste campaign.
HE the minister thanked and appreciated all workers in the field of hygiene and urged all government and private institutions and agencies and all members of the society, to support the ministry’s efforts to maintain public cleanliness and reduce waste and sort it with a view to recycling, in order to improve the quality of life.
HE the Minister of Municipality's Decision No 14 for 2022 regarding the regulations banning single use plastic bags and stipulating the use of recyclable, biodegradable or reusable bags, will come into effect on November 15.
