The Digital Incubation Centre (DIC) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) launched the sixth edition of IdeaCamp in a ceremony attended by DIC’s distinguished partners, members of State institutions, digital entrepreneurship community in Qatar, and selected IdeaCamp entrepreneurs, who will attend IdeaCamp sessions for the upcoming six weeks.
Duha al-Buhendi said: “I welcome you to this exceptional edition of IdeaCamp. The sixth edition of IdeaCamp is aligned with DIC’s vision to support the needs of entrepreneurs in Qatar and prepare them to overcome challenges with their digital innovations. This year’s edition witnessed great demand from entrepreneurs with applications exceeding 270 of which 150 were accepted”
The opening ceremony of IdeaCamp featured a keynote speech from Salem al-Kuwari, co-founder of Redlogik, who shared the company’s success story. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr Hanan el-Basha, co-director of Founder Institute Qatar Chapter titled ‘Success Stories and Advice from Top Qatar Entrepreneurs’.
The panel included Hesham el-Feshway, co-founder and CEO of At Home Doc; Muneera al-Dosari, CEO of Starlink; and Abdulrahman Khamees, founder and CEO of Thakaa Technologies. Through this panel, IdeaCamp participants learned inspiring success stories from Qatar entrepreneurs that will make an impact on their journey.
During the opening ceremony, winners from the previous code camp held at the beginning of August were awarded a cash prize of QR25,000 for each winning team.
Following the opening ceremony, the first workshop of IdeaCamp was held. IdeaCamp training workshops will run until the end of October 2022. DIC will select 40 emerging ideas to compete on ‘Pitching Day’ before a specialised jury to determine the 25 winning ideas.
DIC will support the 25 winners throughout their incubation period. The startups will enjoy free office space for two years and access to a free package of digital services, including, but not limited to, Oracle cloud services, Amazon Web services, and the Adobe Creative suite. The top three winners of the IdeaCamp will win a total cash prize of QR300,000.
DIC was established in 2011 to build a supportive ecosystem for digital entrepreneurs in Qatar to enable them to achieve their dreams and make them active contributors to the diversification of the digital economy of the State of Qatar. Through its strategic partnerships, DIC seeks to raise the level of digital entrepreneurship in Qatar and empower the promising generation of innovative ideas capable of harnessing emerging technology to overcome contemporary challenges.
