The body of the Indian girl Minsa Mariam Jacob, who died on Sunday after being left alone in a locked school bus in the sun for about four hours, was flown to her native place.
Several friends of the family and community members paid final tributes to the deceased at Wakra Hospital on Tuesday evening.
The body is being taken to her hometown Chingavanam near Kottayam in Kerala. The funeral will take place today evening.
The four year-old student of The Springfield Kindergarten in Wakra is the second daughter of Abilash Chacko and Soumya. The couple have an elder daughter, Mikha Jacob.
Tragedy struck the family on Sunday, which also happened to be the birthday of Minsa. Friends of the family said that the bus driver and the attendant had failed to notice the child, who might have fallen asleep in the bus. Once all the other children had exited, the staff locked the bus leaving Minsa alone inside.
The presence of the child in the bus was noticed only after the classes were over in the afternoon when the driver and the attendant returned to drop the children back. Though Minsa was hurried to Wakra Hospital, her life could not be saved, sources said. The maximum temperature across Qatar on Sunday was in the 36C to 43C range.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) mourned the death of the girl and announced in a statement on Sunday that an investigation has been launched into the tragic incident.
