The Ministry of Interior organised yesterday a workshop on countering cybercrimes in collaboration with Project Stadia affiliated with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), and with the participation of 40 trainees of various ranks from the Criminal Investigation and Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating departments, QNA reported.
With the attendance of several international experts, the workshop discussed an array of critical topics, including financial crimes, currency and tickets counterfeit, infringement on the rights of intellectual property and cybercrimes, as well as the operation of criminal networks and organised crimes.
Assistant Director of the Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department Maj. Eng. Madawi Saeed al-Qahtani pointed out that the workshop comes in recognition of the importance of sharing knowledge, persistent training, refining investigators' skills and building their capacities through exploring the best practices in the techniques of interrogation, including the modern techniques pursued by the criminals, in addition to discussing the potential challenges and putting forward new solutions.
He pointed out that the workshop also seeks to strengthen the efforts of safeguarding public security and safety, and boosting the partnership with international institutions to figure out the best practices to handle the crimes associated with major events and the mechanisms of handling them.
For his part, Senior Manager of Interpol's Project Stadia Falah al-Dosari hailed the constructive co-operation between Interpol and Qatar, adding that the workshop discusses a myriad of protection methods against cybercrimes, noting that the participating experts are working in this field on a daily basis.
He emphasised the importance of sharing the experiences and information in securing the mega sporting events, especially the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and future events such as the 2024 Olympics, or the 2026 World Cup hosted by America, Canada, and Mexico.
Project Stadia is a Qatari project started in 2012 in collaboration with Interpol for assisting member countries in the organisation to set police and security measures to be enforced within the framework of the preparation for mega sporting events.
