His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani visited on Thursday the sixth edition of the Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition (S'hail 2022) organised by Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation. His Highness the Amir toured the pavilions of local, regional and international companies exhibiting falcons, falconry products, hunting weaponry, camping supplies and safari automobiles. He also viewed a number of artworks related to hunting and listened to an explanation from the organisers about the heritage and cultural activities at the exhibition.
The event continued to draw a large number of people on Day 4 on Thursday while also witnessing high-level official visits by the ambassadors of Jordan, Yemen, Russia and Nigeria, in addition to the chargé d'affaires of the Syrian embassy and chargé d'affaires of the Serbian embassy. Further, the exhibition witnessed the visit of members of the Geographical Society of the Gulf Co-operation Council, who took a tour of the exhibition and got acquainted with its various sections.

* Craft industries highlighting aesthetics of heritage
The various pavilions participating in S’hail 2022 highlight the aesthetics of heritage related to hunting and falcons thus enhancing awareness of the importance of preserving handicrafts and crafts and encouraging their continuity and sustainability. Firms producing and distributing hunting-related products, falconry, and safari requirements occupy the largest space (in terms of area) in the exhibition and constitute a forum that brings together a group of the most skilled and creative craftsmen.
In a press statement, Kamal Mukhtar, director of Al-Ashqar Company for the sale of falcons and their accessories (Qatar), said the company’s pavilion in the exhibition contains 80 handmade products, which include bird cages, Al-Sabouq – a string of threads that attaches the falcon to the hand of its owner or in his perch, and mantle (wooden stand on which the falcon spends most of its time resting, sleeping and waiting), and the cloth bags a falconer keeps with personal items used for hunting.
Hassan Saeed, director of a hunting supplies company (Qatar), said they have a small workshop that specialises in the manufacture of falcon hoods (eye covers). Made of natural leather (deer), he pointed out that his workshop supervises all manufacturing, tanning and dyeing processes for these various products, expressing his happiness with the ideal and valuable opportunity that S’hail provides to increase sales, improve quality and communicate with artisans of heritage industries and learn about new innovations.
For his part, Khaled Dahamniah, supervisor of the Arab Raw Materials Wood Pavilion (Russia), said that his pavilion displays knives made of pure Damascus steel, gilded knives, and Jawhar knives with wooden handles made of walnut and oak trees. He said participating in S’hail was significant given the global reputation of the exhibition, and the good opportunity it offers for handicrafts.
Fahd al-Saad from Kuwait said his products displayed at his pavilion are of great interest to visitors as they include luxurious hand-made gem-studded hunting knives, as well as sheaths and bags made of fabrics or natural leather.

Falconry products, and camping wares, fascinate visitors
For a hunting or camping enthusiast, S’hail is like a paradise for the variety of products it offers. This year, the section providing all such utilities occupies the largest expanse (in terms of area) at the exhibition. And the various wares that are displayed are simply top class.
Falconry products – from amazing falcon hoods (eye-covers) to hunting gloves to hunting wear and equipment such as binoculars are in abundance and among the best in the world.
For those who love wild safaris and camping in forests, equipment like generators, lighting devices, specially-made cooking stoves, kitchen utilities, jackets, shoes, carpets, leather goods etc. of various designs are available.
For professionals, the latest electronic devices and gadgets for hunting needs are there.
Providing details, Rushdi of Al-Aqilat Travel and Hunting Supplies, a Saudi Arabia company, said they are offering various trekking products and hunting supplies. At the forefront being a German-made falcon tracking device which can check 3,000 birds simultaneously and its features work on more than one frequency. It is equipped with a battery that works all day without interruption, in addition to other products related to hunting requirements.
Badr Mohamed Abdul Rahman Saab, owner of Badr Al Emarat (Hunting and Trips Equipment Company), lauded the organisation of S’hail noting that this was his company’s first participation in the exhibition and hoped that they would leave an imprint on Qatari hunting enthusiasts.
He added that the company offers a complete set of travel and camping tools known in the Gulf as "Keshta", and the total of their provisions is of more than 3,000 products including electrical products that are of dual-use (can be used in homes or on land trips).
They also have camping furniture made specifically in maroon colour and specially made for the beloved people of Qatar.
Abdul Halim al-Sunaidi, director of Al Sunaidi Travel Supplies Company (Saudi Arabia), also expressed his pleasure in S’hail participation for a second time. He said that the company’s pavilion offers about 500 products related to all requirements of road trips and camping, noting that Al Sunaidi Saudi Company is considered the first and largest in Saudi Arabia for camping and excursions, and their accessories are carefully made from the finest materials.
Iyad Obaidullah, the owner of British firm "Sahara", headquartered in London, expressed his happiness to be at the sixth edition of S’hail. The company is considered one of the founding companies of this exhibition having participated in all six editions of the distinguished exhibition.
He said his company produces everything related to falconers' requirements, including falcon hoods, spurs, mantles and gloves, and everything related to falconry. All of the company's leather products are made of high-quality natural deer skin, noting that the company also provides services in arranging hunting visits with weapons in Britain, South Africa, and Spain. They have many clients from Qatar and other Arab countries.

Fresh hunting catch food at S’hail
S’hail exhibition also offers a variety of cuisine prepared daily from fresh hunting catch, served at Miqyal Restaurant. The dishes prepared include Fowa Shui, which contains grilled meat from deer, pigeons, chicken, rabbits and birds. Other delicious food and appetizers are also available at the several eating outlets situated within the exhibition premises.
S’hail 2022, the sixth edition of Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition has the presence of 180 local, Gulf and international companies from 20 countries. It runs till tomorrow (September 10).
The exhibition will receive visitors from 2pm to 11pm on September 9.
