United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned on Monday the explosion that took place near the Russian embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and resulted in casualties.

The Secretary-General strongly condemns Monday's attack in Kabul in the immediate vicinity of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

"The Secretary-General reiterates that attacks against civilians and civilian objects, including diplomatic missions, are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law," Dujarric said in the statement.

Moscow announced earlier that two employees of the diplomatic mission at the Russian Embassy in Afghanistan were killed in an explosion in Kabul.
