* Move comes in implementation of His Highness the Amir's directives
In implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the first flight as part of the air bridge allocated by Qatar to support Pakistan in confronting the disaster caused by torrential rains and floods, which struck large parts of Pakistan, was launched on Friday.
The first flight of the air bridge was accompanied by a team from the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), equipped with specialised mechanisms for search and rescue operations, in addition to a medical team with integrated medical equipment to establish field hospitals to support those affected in flood-hit areas.
The Qatari air bridge also includes sending pumps and special equipment to withdraw water and transport relief aid.

The Standing Committee for Rescue and Relief Works and Humanitarian Aids for Afflicted Areas in Brotherly and Friendly Countries undertakes the task of preparing relief materials and co-ordinating with the authorities concerned to deliver them to the affected areas.
Recently, Qatar affirmed its solidarity with Pakistan, government and people in countering the devastation caused by floods and torrential rains that have hit the country. Accordingly, under the directives of His Highness the Amir, Qatar Fund For Development provided the first batch of emergency relief aid for those affected by the floods in Pakistan.
This came during remarks delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva, Hind bint Abdul Rahman al-Muftah, during her participation in the joint launch of 2022 Pakistan Floods Response Plan organised by the government of Pakistan and the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva.
On behalf of Qatar, al-Muftah expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
She stressed that 35,000 of the affected persons from the brotherly people of Pakistan will benefit from the emergency aid, which is considered part of an urgent relief campaign to overcome the impact of the floods in the country. The aid included 21,000 food baskets, 5,000 tents and 5,000 hygiene kits.
Al-Muftah said Qatar Red Crescent Society had allocated funds to support floods victims in Pakistan, where the urgent relief intervention plan requires the provision of emergency shelters and domestic equipment for 200 families affected by floods that include roughly 1,400 people. She added that Qatar Charity has also undertaken its role by distributing urgent relief aid to Afghan refugees and the host community from those affected by floods in Balochistan province of Pakistan, in co-operation with the Pakistani Provincial Disaster Management Authority, with more than 9,000 people from among Afghan refugees and the host community benefiting from the aid.
She stressed that such relief aid provided by Qatar comes in support of the Pakistani people to provide them with the urgent necessities and further support them to rise again and rebuild their societies after the disaster.
She affirmed the unwavering support of Qatar to Pakistan, including its full readiness to provide everything that would help overcoming these crises. (QNA)
