Qatar University's QU-Health cluster organised its first new students’ orientation exhibition under the slogan 'Your Gateway to Health Professions' to welcome 350 male and female students. The aim was to introduce them to the colleges, programmes and services provided.
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, vice president for Health and Medical Sciences Dr Asma al-Thani, Qatar Armed Forces' Medical Services Commander Dr Asaad Ahmed al-Asaad, deans of colleges of QU-Health and department heads were present.
QU Students Services, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Aspetar, Sidra Medicine, Qatar Armed Forces (Medical Services Section) and Qatar Airways put up stalls at the event and provided information on educational and professional programmes in addition to an explanation of the medical and health departments in each institution and the nature of working with them.
There were booths by Interprofessional Education Association, College of Health Sciences Student Association, Qatar Medical Students’ Association, College of Pharmacy Student Board, Dental Students Association in Qatar and individual booths of each member of QU Health, such as College of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, and College of Nursing.
Dr Alla El-Awaisi, director of Clinical Operations and Engagement in QU-Health, explained that some new students may have preconceived ideas and judgments about the difficulty of studying in health majors and what they must follow to succeed in their study. "The orientation exhibition guides the students by providing them with the correct information and answering their queries," she added.
Trainer and life coach Wadha al-Athba gave a motivational speech to the students and urged them to enrich their personal skills in addition to the academic life at the university. QU-Health is one of the largest academic health clusters in the region.
