QatarDebate has fared well in the World Schools Debating Championship 2022, hosted online in the Netherlands. The event saw participation from 66 countries.
The Qatari participants reached the knockout round and were ranked among the best 10 teams worldwide in the English-language international tournaments for the high school level.
Team member Moza al-Hajri was awarded the sixth best speaker in the championship.
The QatarDebate team comprised promising national students, namely Moza al-Hajri, Alreem al-Aqaily, Fatima al-Thani, Fatima Marafiya, Mira Khalid and Sara al-Maadeed.
The team members attributed their achievements in the tough competitions to the year-long training they had with coaches at Qatar Debate Centre, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
They said they started their training every week before an intensified phase with an average of seven hours a day.
They added the training focused on impromptu debates and offered diversity in preparing the debate issues as well as a variety of pre-championship trials with other international teams.
The team members expressed happiness at representing Qatar and achieving a high ranking in a major international event.
They expressed hope of continuing training for more success in future championships and raising the Qatari flag high in international events. The members extended their thanks and gratitude to the Qatar Debate Centre and its coaches for their efforts that contributed to the team's excellence. (QNA)
