The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) organised Monday a lecture titled "Diplomacy & Economy" delivered by the researcher and specialist Dr Wael Shadid in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Global Public Diplomacy Network and CEO of the Katara Public Diplomacy Centre (KPDC) Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani and Director of Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulaziz al-Horr, besides a host of academics and students.
The lecture addressed the role of the economy in public diplomacy as a new dimension in achieving the national economic interests, the private sector's interests, and the public national interests, in addition to reviewing a multitude of themes such as public diplomacy concepts and their relationship with soft power, civil society and government role, economic diplomacy and its functions, Qatari economic diplomacy and its impact, as well as economic diplomacy and sports.
Al-Shaibani said that the lecture comes within the framework of a series of awareness lectures in public diplomacy launched by Katara, in collaboration with KPDC, underlining that economic diplomacy plays an instrumental role in solidifying communication between nations and peoples to build friendships, pointing out that Qatar is considered one of the prominent nations that have concrete accomplishments in economic diplomacy, which is one of the vital means of promoting and expanding the fruit of the economic and social development, since this diplomacy contributes to establishing a premium foundation to further promote ties between nations and peoples, in addition to strengthening and solidifying diplomatic bridges and create influence and attraction powers at the international level.
Dr Shadid elucidated that public diplomacy has a significant role at the global level, pointing out that Qatar is considered a pioneering country in public diplomacy and has developed a special product in this field, adding that the lecture attempted to focus on the economy as one of the most significant aspects in public diplomacy, hoping that the near future will witness the launch of premium initiatives in the field of public diplomacy through KPDC, underscoring that these initiatives would have distinctive regional and international dimensions.
The diplomacy and economy lecture is held within the framework of events and activities organised by Katara in collaboration with KPDC to raise the public awareness in public diplomacy. (QNA)
