Promoting individual, professional and community development across the region, the Translation and Training Centre (TTC) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will begin a new cycle of its specialised translation and interpreting workshops.
The expert-led, highly practical training sessions - now open for registration - will run continually between August 28 and May 31, 2023.
The workshops aim to enhance and expand the skill sets demanded of practicing translators, interpreters and communication specialists in different professional contexts. Connecting the practical and theoretical aspects, participants will learn best practices that meet professional standards in business and finance, medicine, media and audiovisual translation.
In addition to interpreting, revision, and industry-standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, the courses will orient practitioners to the latest technological innovations and methodologies in the fast-changing translation and interpreting fields. They will also develop their awareness of ethical and professional issues.
TTC’s varied workshops include Professional Interpreting, Professional Translation Basics, Translation and Technology: SDL Trados, Business Arabic Writing, Master the Techniques of Note-Taking, Translating Sports, Legal Translation, Business and Finance Translation, Medical Translation, and Revision and Quality Assurance.
Professional trainers use engaging approaches to teaching and participants will have opportunities to gain practical skills in the fully digitized language labs at TII. All workshops are conducted in English and Arabic, with the exception of Business Arabic Writing.
TTC is part of the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at HBKU, and will offer the workshops in person at Penrose House, Education City.
