The beach clean-up drives by the Doha Environmental Actions Project (Deap Qatar) have become a year-round programme, in collaboration with the authorities and organisations concerned.
Last week, 26 volunteers took part in Al Yousufiya beach clean-up, removing some 100kg of trash.

In Al Khor, a similar activity saw 33 volunteers removing 100kg of trash from the beach at Al Thakira – described as Qatar's oldest and largest mangrove forests.
In a post on its social media pages, organisers thanked volunteers, friends and families who participated in the beach clean-up.
Deap Qatar also puts a spotlight on the importance of using up-cycled materials at the “Across Borders: Textile Heritage Exhibition”, taking place at M7, Msheireb Downtown Doha in collaboration with the US embassy in Doha.
“The exhibition celebrates the similarities between traditional Qatari weaving techniques and patterns from those of the natives from the Americas,” Deap Qatar said. “All pieces in the exhibition were created with up-cycled materials, and celebrates the zero-waste approach that our ancestors had when it came to making textiles.”

Deap Qatar held a total of 100 clean-up drives in a year despite the many challenges such as coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions during the pandemic, bringing together about 3,000 volunteers, companies, schools, embassies, government, and non-government entities.
Around 27 tonnes of trash have been removed from Qatar’s beaches, rawdas, sand dunes, mangroves, and heritage sites, according to the organisers.
It noted that 11mn tonnes of plastic waste enter the ocean worldwide, posing a threat to the planet and humanity.
“The environmental challenges that we face are enormous, and so is our determination to raise environmental awareness and do our part so we can #keepqatarclean and beautiful for generations to come,” Deap Qatar said.
Beach clean-up drives also provide an opportunity for participants to “discover Qatar with a purpose” and lead the fight plastic pollution.
