The Indonesian embassy in Qatar kicked-off a series of celebrations to mark the nation’s Independence Day. Indonesian ambassador Ridwan Hassan opened the celebrations at the Qatar Bowling Centre on Wednesday (August 10), in the presence of embassy staff and several representatives of the community.
To commemorate the Independence Day, the embassy has organised several activities such as sports competitions, including bowling, badminton and table tennis matches, as well as art and cultural competitions, workshop and exhibitions. The celebrations will last until early September. “Independence Day is always special for every nation. For Indonesians, this year's celebration is also different because it will mark the start of what we call the year of recovery," Hassan said.
The envoy observed that in order to recover from Covid-19, the world has no other choice but to strengthen its global co-operation. This is the reason why Indonesia has introduced the motto ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’ during its presidency at G20 this year. Indonesia, which proclaimed its independence on August 17, 1945, is now a major global power. Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous nation and 10th largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity. Indonesia assumed the G20 Presidency this year, encouraging all countries to work together to achieve a stronger and more sustainable recovery from the pandemic’s impacts, an embassy statement added.
