In a tweet, SC paid tribute to al-Kuwari: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague Eng. Hilal al-Kuwari, Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Steering Committee at the SC.
“Eng. Hilal made a huge contribution to the construction of all eight stadiums for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. His work will be admired and celebrated for many years to come. He will be fondly remembered — particularly during this year’s FIFA World Cup, which he worked so hard to successfully deliver for the people of Qatar. May Allah bless his soul and grant his family the strength they need during this difficult time,” the SC said in a tweet.
Al-Kuwari supervised the development and operation of the Sports City project, known as Aspire Zone, including the stages of planning and construction of infrastructure for the venues of the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006. He also made significant contributions to many Projects in sports clubs in Qatar. Al-Kuwari played a key role in the development of innovative cooling technology systems at Al Sadd Sports Club.
Drawing on his extensive knowledge in the field of engineering, al-Kuwari held a number of senior management positions in Qatar Petroleum and RasGas. In recognition to his outstanding performance, he was chosen in 2009 as the best engineer in the State of Qatar.
Al-Kuwari was also an active member of a number of government tender committees, including the Tenders Committee of the Public Works Authority, the Organising Committee for the 2022 World Cup, and the Qatar Central Tenders Committee, in addition to his participation in many other major projects.
