ExxonMobil Qatar has concluded its summer internship programme that was held at its offices in West Bay.
Eight undergraduate and graduate students from Texas A&M Qatar, Qatar University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Northwestern University, took part in the program, which provided them with an opportunity to work alongside ExxonMobil executives across various departments at the company, including Public and Government Affairs; Upstream Joint Ventures; ExxonMobil Research Qatar (EMRQ); Environmental and Property Solutions; and Finance.
During their time at ExxonMobil Qatar, the interns were assigned projects or activities with direct impact to ExxonMobil’s business, while also learning firsthand how their assigned departments work together with other teams in a large and integrated energy company.
They also gained insight on business objectives and how they could individually contribute towards these objectives Each intern had an assigned an experienced mentor to support their work delivery and overall work experience.
Speaking about her internship experience at ExxonMobil Qatar, Mariam Ahmed of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, said, “My time at ExxonMobil has significantly expanded my knowledge on organizational behavior and change. I really enjoyed the opportunity of learning about different aspects of the business and of being involved in exciting projects.”
Another intern, Amna Aljumaily, a Qatar University computer science graduate commented, “My internship at ExxonMobil Qatar was great because I felt like I was truly part of the team I was working with. I was able to help in visualising the data that helps achieve company goals and also avoid potential delays. Every day I spent at the company was enriching and exciting, and I would like to thank ExxonMobil Qatar for this unforgettable opportunity.”
“Our summer internship program helps train and provide work experience to students and recent graduates from local universities. What we aim to achieve through the program is a future ready workforce that is equipped with practical and technical skills and essential industry knowledge provided by one of the world’s largest publicly traded energy providers and chemical manufacturers,” said Kemi Harris, Surface Technical manager in ExxonMobil Qatar.
The summer internship programme is one of several outreach programs ExxonMobil Qatar runs within the local community.
These programmes aim to support learning objectives and build human capacities in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its Human Development Pillar.
