The animal research section at the Agriculture Research Department has carried out an experiment to fatten sheep using non-traditional fodders (aloe vera), Ministry of Municipality said Monday.
During the experiment which lasted for around 70 days, three groups of sheep were fed on different quantities of aloe vera ranging from 10 to 15%, with the third considered a control group. Throughout the experiment, the amount of fodder consumed and weight gained were recorded weekly.



At the conclusion of the experiment, the final weight of the animal was recorded and a blood sample taken for lab examinations. Subsequently, the sheep under study were taken to Al Sheehaniya Slaughterhouse and slaughtered the standard way.
The various parts of the sheep carcasses were weighed at room temperature and the next day after being refrigerated at 4C. Further, the necessary tests and examinations were conducted to measure the quality of the meat and its physical and chemical properties.
The outcomes of the experiment will be published in a prestigious scientific journal, the statement added.
