Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani has led a delegation, which participated in the 33rd meeting of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) board of directors and its 38th general assembly, as well as the first session meeting of the executive committee held recently in Muscat, Oman.
The delegation included Qatar Chamber board member Dr Mohamed bin Jawhar al-Mohamed and general manager Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi.
The meetings, which were hosted by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussed ways to enhance economic development in all Islamic countries and boost co-operation between member states.
The general assembly meeting approved Qatar’s hosting of the ICCIA's General Assembly Meeting in 2023. The agenda of the board of directors meeting discussed many topics, including the recommendations of the Finance Committee and approval of the establishment of the Digital Transformation Committee.
It also reviewed the accreditation programme, which allows chambers of commerce in countries within the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) to evaluate and enhance performance to apply best practices in businesses.
Yousef Khalawu was elected as secretary general of the ICCIA during this meeting. On the sidelines, many activities were held, including an exhibition for productive families and handicrafts, a workshop about halal products, and a presentation about investment opportunities available in Oman, in addition to several B2B meetings aimed at forging business partnerships among different participating countries.
ICCIA is an affiliated institution of the OIC and is the sole representative of the private sector of 57 member Islamic countries. It aims at strengthening closer collaboration in the field of trade, commerce, information technology, insurance/reinsurance, shipping, banking, promotion of investment opportunities, and joint ventures in the member countries.
