The emergency departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received 250 cases on the second day of Eid al-Adha holidays while the Emergency Service at HMC responded to 270 calls for help.
In addition, the paediatric emergency departments received 952 cases on the first day of Eid. Speaking to Local Arabic daily Arrayah, Ali Darwish, assistant executive director of the Ambulance Service at HMC, said the 270 calls for help included 40 injuries, 230 cases of sick people, and six road accidents. The helicopter ambulance received three calls from the Sealine Area.
The official stressed the ambulance service covers all the outskirts of the country and the beaches at the Sealine, Al Khor, Dukhan and the other Western Beaches using 4x4 vehicles equipped with all the tools and equipment for handling rough and sandy terrain while being ready to provide first aid for patients until reaching the hospital.
The service gives special focus to crowded areas such as Katara - The Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, shopping malls, Aspire Park and parks across the country. The paramedics use golf carts and bikes to access the crowded areas easily and speedily, Darwish added.
Dr Rana Abdalla, assistant director of the Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), said that the emergency departments received 250 cases in the second day of Eid holidays, mostly of gastrointestinal troubles due to consuming more meat and fatty foods in addition to cases of common cold.
Dr Sameer Azzam, senior paediatrics consultant at Al Rayyan Emergency Department, said that the paediatrics emergency departments across the country received 952 cases during the first day of Eid holidays, with Al Sadd receiving 548, Al Rayyan 239, Al Matar 93 and 72 cases at Al Daayan Health Centre.
