More than 5mn people have visited Katara between January and June, the Cultural Village Foundation has said.
Giving details of the events and activities held in the first half of 2022, the Katara Cultural Index says the Cultural Village received 5,288,016 people and 2,094,285 vehicles in the said period, while there were 166,222 beach visitors,
The numbers also showed there were 81,200 tourists and 3,702 students.
Some 411 activities were held in this period, including art exhibitions, heritage festivals, concerts, art workshops, forums, seminars, lectures and others, the official Qatar News Agency said in a related report.
Pertaining to these indicators, General Manager of Katara Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Prof Khalid Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said that what appears in the annual or semi-annual cultural index of Katara is not just numbers, but rather the result of accurate planning and close follow-up of the implementation of the activities and events held throughout the year, considering the success of these events and the public response to them. It is due to the co-operation and co-ordination between all departments and sections of the Cultural Village, in addition to the employees' spirit of solidarity and teamwork, which has earned Katara the reputation and primarily qualified it to become an icon of culture, not only in Qatar, but at the Arab and global level.
Prof Khalid Ibrahim al-Sulaiti hoped that the upcoming Katara events and activities would become more impressive, particularly the events that are due to be implemented in combination with FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which are predicted to be premium and to satisfy various audiences.
Director of Cultural Affairs and Events at Katara Khalid Abdul Rahim al-Sayed said that the past six months witnessed a cultural and technical movement in the Cultural Village, especially after the deceleration of Covid-19 pandemic. This period witnessed myriad of events, notably the theatrical movement with the organisation of 44 theatrical shows in co-ordination with Theater Affairs Center at the Ministry of Culture.
The cultural index showed that the period from January to the end of last June witnessed the establishment of 50 art exhibitions containing about 526 pieces of art, in which about 113 artists participated. Katara also hosted 15 cultural and heritage festivals, as well as festivals of an international nature. In addition to the festivals to celebrate public and local events, it also hosted 14 concerts, 33 workshops and 23 sessions, in addition to 18 gatherings and forums, 36 seminars and lectures, as well as 50 religious activities hosted by the Katara Mosque and its halls. In addition, five events were also held that included the distribution of prizes and contests.
The halls and theatres of Katara Cultural Village witnessed the screening of 28 Arab and foreign films in co-operation and co-ordination with Arab and foreign authorities and embassies in the country, while the Planetarium hosted 103 shows and received 6,684 visitors.
In addition, the first half of this year celebrated the launch by Katara of several initiatives which were intended to support culture, literature and art.
