Five new bus stations have been opened at different locations under the Public Bus Infrastructure Programme, which is being implemented as part of the efforts to provide high-quality transportation services in Qatar.
Mowasalat (Karwa) on Tuesday informed – through Twitter – that the Lusail, Al Wakra, Industrial Area, Al Sudan and Al Rayyan bus stations are fully functional.
Work on the West Bay, Msheireb and Al Gharrafa bus stations are under way, and these are expected to open soon.
The Public Bus Infrastructure Programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) in co-ordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) as part of the provision of high-quality transportation services and modern parking facilities strategically distributed across the country and accessible for everyone easily and affordably.
It is aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to use modern public transportation systems while helping them save time and cost.
The Public Bus Infrastructure Programme has been envisioned to improve services on public roads and at major intersections by achieving smoother traffic flow, less congestion and less carbon emissions while providing a significant enhancement to Qatar’s public transportation network.
It supports the country’s public transportation network and Doha Metro services for citizens, residents, visitors and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans, who can make use of public transportation to reach World Cup stadiums.
The bus stations are constructed in accordance with the highest global safety and environment standards, GSAS.
The bus depots and stations have important design and operational considerations with three-star environmental quality for energy saving and environmental conservation.
As part of the programme, “Park and Ride” facilities are available at certain locations.
Free parking spaces are available for passengers, who can park their vehicles and avail of metro services to reach their destinations.
