The programme focuses on weight loss and also to raise awareness on mental health and an active lifestyle

The Filipino Planning Engineers Association (FPEA) has recently organised ‘The Biggest Loser’, bringing together 21 participants who aim to achieve their ideal body weight.
The event completed the series of weigh-ins at the Al Bidda Park on June 3 – held two years after it was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to FPEA.
FPEA noted that ‘The Biggest Loser’ is unique despite adopting the name of one of America’s famous reality shows, mainly because of the customised mechanics of the competition. It was grouped according to the team colours such as the Blue, Yellow, Green, and Red, symbolising the bar charts in a Gantt chart.
The one-of-its-kind event was organised by Vanessa P Gallego, chairwoman of the Committee on Social and Sports Development, and supported by its president Susana O Nacario and 2nd vice-president Aurora Asda.
The programme re-commenced in October 2021 with the starting total weight of 1,729 kilograms from all the participants. After nine months of training, discipline, dedication, and hard work, the accumulated weight loss totalled more than 30 kilograms, which is equivalent to an average of more than seven newborn babies.
The programme included sports activities such as regular badminton practice games, a badminton tournament held in December 2021, and a few volleyball and basketball games at Al Bidda Park. The winners of the competition will be announced during FPEA’s General Annual Assembly on July 29.
Gallego said she organised the competition to influence and inspire more people to be active and to engage its members in sports. She noted that the programme not only focuses on weight loss of FPEA members but also to raise awareness on the importance of mental health and an active and healthy lifestyle.
