The authorities have chalked out a plan to develop Al Wakra into a vibrant, clean and healthy city with beautiful beaches and well maintained parks while providing the residents with better services. Eng. Mohamed Hassan al-Nuaimi, Director of Al-Wakra Municipality, told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the municipality is focusing on developing the coastal area of Al-Wakra city to be a main attraction while serving the residents as well as visitors and tourists.

“The technical and supervisory teams in the municipality are working in full swing to beautify the buildings and main streets in cooperation with owners to remove abandoned and old buildings that may distort the general view,” he said adding that the municipality carried out about 168 inspection activities while issuing 68 reports of infringement on state property during the first quarter of 2022. “Work is underway to limit encroachments on state property in coordination with the competent authorities,” he said.

He added that the road projects that were completed within the municipality of Al-Wakra contributed to solving about 85% of the problem of overcrowding in Al-Wakra Municipality while proceedings are underway to set up new fuel stations in the municipality.
He noted that Al Wakra Municipality was awarded the Unesco Learning Cities Award and it’s looking to obtain the accreditation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the third healthy city in Qatar. “We are working on making its public parks and beaches elderly and specially abled friendly. We have started implementing the marine walkway project for the elderly and people with special needs at Al Wakra public beach to be the first project of its kind in Qatar. This is in cooperation with the private sector companies that implemented it within the community partnership.
He noted that the massive urban development in Al-Wakra Municipality is increasing. “This requires an increase in the number of parks as well as an increase in the green area,” he said.
